There is an item on eBay and I have a bid in with esnipe. It has 2 bids, both by the same bidder. The opening bid is 7.95 & the current bid is 7.95. This bidder bid on 5/24 & 5/26. Why is the bid at the same amount as the opening bid & why would the same person bid twice on two separate days. I know his first bid, no matter how high, would stay at the opening bid, but why the second bid and the amount staying the same. I'm not exactly new to eBay, but this has me confused. I'm sure there is a logical explanation. Anyone know what it is? I sure don't.

Maybe they're expecting your esnipe and put a second, reserve bid, in place to counteract it.

Since its the same bidder, it won't increment until someone else trys to place a bid.

Hi,
This person wanted to make sure they weren't outbid so they UPPED their proxy bid.
Say the first bid he made was $10.00, afraid he would get out bid he went back and upped it to $20.00.

If he upped his bid then why didn't the amount change. It's still at 7.95 the starting bid.

if you are the ONLY bidder on an auction you CANNOT up your own "starting" bid...you can ONLY increase your PROXY...

besides, if you snipe and win, who cares how it happened?

best of luck!

debtrek OK, now I understand. The auction ended minutes ago. He bid 7.95, then 10.05 & I sniped it at 10.55.
It was for a computer game, Lemmings Paintball.
Thanks everyone for your replies.

ok, now i have a question on this. same situation with an item i had up. bidder places bid on day 2 of a 7 day. day 7 s/he places a second bid, which bumps it up to the next increment. why? and yes, at that point s/he was the only bidder.

The bidder may have been in between increments.

Say your starting bid was 6.99. They bid 7.40 the first time around. 7.40 is in between the 25 cent increment of the auction.

So, when they place the second bid, it bumped the bid up the bid showing to 7.24.
