I'm back! I haven't posted here in over a year. I was glad to see a lot of familiar names still hanging around in here. My big problem is, and well, truthfully, it's not big at all, I listed a 1965 Men's Magazine (ADAM yearbook) and eBay cancelled it. They said it had to be in the Mature Audiences Category. Well, if you guys could see this pitiful little thing, there is no below the waist nudity whatsoever, and it being 1965, it is collectible, judging by the bids I got on it. Not to mention the fact that prior to listing I perused the listings as always trying to find the proper category for it, and found these to be in the Men's Magazine Category. Well, I wrote eBay and I am waiting to see what they have to say. Honestly who in the adult category will even be interested in this tame magazine, I cannot say. Any feedback or comments would be appreciated, as always. BTW, I only gave cosmetic descriptions and the list of girls featured in it, and no picture at all. What are your opinion(s)?

People do look in the Adult category for vintage collectible items.

Try searching for the same item and see where it is listed.

Just a suggestion

Um, as I understand it, Search does not include the Adult category.
You have to sign in there and search it separately.

Well... I think you should wait to receive your response from eBay. If I recall correctly, eBay sorta drew the line regarding "Adult" magazines for the Adult Categories as being anything AFTER 1980. I'm not sure why nudity before 1980 isn't viewed by the folks at eBay as "Adult".. but this is something that was decided several months ago when they began the CATEGORY "improvements" on the site.

AND...I just checked the SITE TEXT during the listing process for Magazines; Men and there is NOTHING in the way of a warning for nudity etc. However, I ALSO checked the site text during the listing process for Magazines; Playboy PRE 1980 and this is what it says:

"This category is designed for collectible Playboy magazines only.
Magazines sold here must clearly show the month and year of
publication, and only magazines published before 1980 may be posted in
this category.
Images included in the listing or linked to may not portray frontal nudity
or graphic sexual activity. Please note that blocking the "risqué" parts of
an image will not exempt the item from these standards. Items that are
posted in violation of the above guidelines may be moved to the Mature
Audiences area or ended. "

This is within the REGULAR Listings... so it seems to me that it would be a fair guideline to follow... and it might not be a bad idea to keep this text and bring it to the eBay Reps attention if you end up with a "cut and paste" answer (the first time around) that is not indicative of eBays own site text.

GOOD LUCK to you.

Same thing happened to 15 of my auctions some weeks ago. All were mid 1950's and one had the same Monroe image that eBay primier had auctioned just a week before. All were cancelled. Know what happened? Same thing that happened to you I bet. The eBay snitch-rat-fink program or another seller using the eBay snitch-rat-fink program to lessen his competition.

Hey thank for the feedback you guys.
Here is the response I gave eBay regarding this, and I sent it to [email protected]:

I appreciate your concerns about ending this auction. However, there is no below the waist male or female nudity in this entire magazine. In fact, it is much more tame than the Playboy magazines that I also currently have listed in the General categories. There was no description of any vulgarity or any suggestive photography mentioned in my listing nor within the magazine itself. I browsed eBay fully before listing this item to determine the proper category and found that there were many of these same magazines listed within the "Men's Magazine" category, and believed that to be the proper category for this item, together with viewing personally the contents of the magazine and finding them non-explicit. I am a reasonably sensible person with the intelligence to determine what is proper and what is not and I feel that this a gray area that needs further clarification. Please offer a suggestion as to which adult category it should be placed, as I frankly believe that the contents of this issue would be far too boring and soft-core to be of any interest to a person surfing the "adults only" categories, and to list there would be in vain and a waste of 30 more cents. I would like to relist this but want a more direct answer as to why it was cancelled first. I used no photo in my listing at all, and in my opinion, if Playboy has ranks in the general listings, I truly believe that this magazine is perfectly fine there as well. Please respond ASAP. Thanks!

I wouldn't reference my Playboy auctions in the General category in my email. No doubt they'll cancel those too.

They are in the "playboy" category, which is in the general listings and which is allowed. That is just my point. They allow the same exact material that is in the magazine I listed in the general categories, yet they cancelled this one based on what, I do not know. Playboy is allowed, featuring the same type photos, yet this one is not. If I had a 1965 Playboy listed, it would have been fine.

Aha! There are three listed currently in the general category right now! I have suspicions as to what happened to me, but I won't dare discuss it. It is purely speculation.

danilynn: Yep... anything BEFORE 1980.
(I guess gettin' naked in the 70s and 80s wasn't as naked as it was in the 90s??) - go figure! *smile*

Well, that may be true....I guess I wasn't as naked then, considering I was just a little kid...

That was funny, Dottie
