I'm sure the sellers are wondering why they have so many page hits! Did you invite them here?

First the guns. Then the WWII memorabilia. Now out come the petitions to stop the selling of animal pelts. I think I'll start a petition and get anything made in China to be banned from Ebay. I think it's wrong that we should support the profiteers over there who are making big money off of those poor people in those sweat shops. What will be left after every rights group gets their way?

If you have an emotional attachment to horses follow your own conscience. However are you prepared to stop using all products from cows because other people feel as strongly about them as you do horses?
I bet not.

When Trigger died, Roy Rogers had him stuffed. He's in the museum now.

Last time I looked, some dog food contained horse meat. This may have stopped. Additionally, I believe some glues contain horse products (hoofs.) I love horses as much as the next person, but unless all uses of horse flesh it stopped, it seems pointless to waste the hide.

I love horses. Saved my own from slaughter 12 years ago as a 5 month old weanling. Most people don't realize that the majority of horses slaughtered here in the US are sent overseas for foreign human consumption.

I don't like slaughter, but I am not against it until a good alternative is presented.

Horses die. Some through man's hand, some naturally. There is nothing wrong with selling the pelt.

When my horse's time comes, as much as I'd like to just bury him, I am sure I will not be able to do that. He will probably go to the renedering plant. It is a body. What he is and what makes him the horse he is is not defined by his body.

Personally, would not buy it. But, it is no longer alive, and harmless. I don't necessarily think it is right, but I see no reason to sign a petition against it.

I was reading the other day how horse meat is gaining popularity in europe due to mad cow dies said it was a cross in taste between venison and beef.

Just because you don't like it doesn't make it wrong!

Horses are as plentiful as cows so why not use the whole animal, it's not like horses are being raised and slaughtered solely for their pelts.

Get real here and join PETA (People for the Eating of Tasty Animal) If you don't like the item don't buy them but don't try preventing me from buying them.

I'm tired of people trying to force their beleifs on me just because they have some holier then thou beleifs.

Humane treatment doesn't mean you have to stop eating meat. It is NOT black and white.

BTW, minimum wage, 40 hour weeks and sanitary food processing were once "holier than though" ideas.

Oh good grief! I'm sure the animal was dead before the hide was taken. So what's the problem?? Would you rather the beautiful pelt was thrown into the ground to rot??

And yes, I have horses and have all my life. This item for sale still doesn't bother me at all. It just represents someone who cared enough for their animal that they wanted to keep a part of it.

Not conchos on eBay...

I have a dried horse hoof, fetlock and cannon bone that shows navicular and other bone diseases. It's cut down the middle from below the knee, great learning aid. Was given to me by a farrier back "in the day."

Also what about baseball mitts?

Horses are not illegal.

May have been a dear pet that someone loved...and then there was a change in circumstances?

Hard to say!
I love horses, but don't eat them.

Sorry, but I have to agree with most, this is not cruelty...go after the big fish: Thoroughbred racing.

I'll be the first to protect an animal if I get a chance, but I will not think twice when it comes to filling up my freezer with meat. Deer, buffalo, pheasant, ducks, or what ever.

It's sad when someone can't speak up for something they believe in without being ridiculed & mocked

REALLY?

Then what was the purpose of your now edited out first post?

And yes, I have horses also...a couple in the big five figure range which live better than I do.

However I try to keep in mind..it's a LOT easier to get ON a high horse than get OFF one.

While we are banning animal products. We should stop the sale of leather gloves, bags, belts, shoes, jackets, silk items (from silk worms), and any product that originated from animals.

When we get rid of the animal products, we can start with the plant products like paper, etc.

Eventer...LMAO

Yes, the Lexus or the Horse question isn't always a choice.
If your good you get them at used Yugo prices and sell them at Mercedes and Starter Home prices.

I could no more eat a horse than eat my cat.
Lean or not, if you saw how they were transported and butchered you'd have more of a taste for the ducks and venison that hunters bring home.
Ain't pretty is an understatement, especially european abatoirs (Is that spelled correctly?).

Moderator, since the originator left, why not close this silly thread?

Capriole:

Horses are slaughtered the same way as cows, pigs, sheep, goats, etc.

I wouldn't eat a horse, unless I or my kids were starving. Heck, I'd eat dog, then.

I don't eat meat at all. Personal choice, but I don't have anything against those who do eat meat.

I feel bad for those overseas that DO eat our slaughtered horses, since most of the horses bought at auction and sent to slaughter have had wormers, vaccines, medicines, etc, all of which are "not for use in animals intended for food". Yuck.

I guess, as Gravid said, I am partial.
I, too, don't eat meat at all.
But seeing a cow slaughtered is less painful for me than a horse, and I have seen both.
Just my nature!

edited to add:
ps a lot of the horses for meat come from eastern european farms. Beautiful, healthy, young stock.

I do not believe in killing anything and allowing it to waste....I am often furnished meat by people who hunt but don't like to eat what they kill. Because of my vocalized views about "senseless killing" , they started bringing me what most would consider non-edible critters as a "joke". I soon discovered God didn't put much here that could not be used and I saw it as "my mission".

Since I am opposed to waste, I have learned to use as much of the poor beasts as possible. I know it's wierd and probably hypocritical in the eyes of most, but it works for me. I have also taught quite a few people that if they do kill it, they can eat it. I have even taught some, they really don't need to kill it in the first place!!!

I'm climbing off my conservation soap box now.......

Gee if the poster can't take these opposing views they should try posting a political thread in the round table!
People don't roll over and make nice-nice here if they don't agree with you and these comments were mild.
Better buy that horse hide and wrap it around you - because you need a thick skin on public boards.

I have never eaten horse meat to the best of my knowledge. I HAVE eaten a few things in Asia that had me thinking "Just what is it that I'm eating, anyway?".

I have never bought a horse pelt. But I have bought plenty of items made from horse pelts. All wonderful items and worth every penny.

I don't hunt. Not because of a moral issue, but simply because I have no interest in it. I'm a golf and tennis kind of guy myself.

What I'm trying to say here is that what's right for you may not be right for me and vice versa. But that doesn't mean that either one of us is wrong. We just have differing opinions and personal values. Consider the last Presidential election for a moment. Roughly half of the voters are happy with the ultimate result. The other half probably think it sucks. Who's right? Everyone.

The same thing applies to horse pelts, leather, hunting, drilling for oil in "environmentally sensitive" areas, etc. If you don't like it that's your right. But just because you don't like it doesn't mean those who do are wrong.
