Please help! I won the bid on a $320 item, and was ecstatic until the Seller informed me that the cheapest shipping for the 30 lb. item will be $160.00, and she said she does NOT charge for shipping materials, but later said she was eating the price of the $35 special box fee! I can NOT spend this much money. She said if I found a cheaper method she would consider it. The USPS price that I checked out (considering size of box, zip codes and wt.) came to $71.41 WITH insurance!! What would you do???? I am angry, and do not want a neg from her!

$71.41 + $35 for the box = $106.41 not $160.
Have you checked the UPS site? It would probably be significantly cheaper! First $100 of insurance is included in the price and it is only 35 cents per hundred or portion thereof after. So, a $320 item will cost $1.05 for insurance through UPS plus the shipping charges.
I just did a calculation for you using my zip which is east coast to zip 90125 which is west coast.
A 32lb box with dimensions of 20 x 20 x 20 with $400 value (you have to round up)has the following options:
UPS Next Day Air®
Guaranteed by Next Day
Total Rate (USD) 123.31*
UPS 2nd Day Air®
Guaranteed by End of Day -- 2 Days
Total Rate (USD) 95.42*
UPS 3 Day Select®
Guaranteed by End of Day -- 3 Days
Total Rate (USD) 69.19*
UPS Next Day Air Early A.M.®
Total Rate (USD) 151.15*

maybe you could call a pack and ship place in her town and make arrangments for her to drop it off and they could pack and ship you pay them direct.

when i was new i put up a relatively heavy (50+ lbs) and largish item without first checking who could ship it and how much it would cost. put in auction the buyer pays shipping. i'd thought i could just take it to mailboxes etc., and they'd box and ship it. or ups.
auction ended. wrestled item (art deco style office chair) to mailboxes etc, and they said sorry, too big, it'd have to go to a freight company. called them. $200-$300! egads, the chair only sold for $100. too big for any reasonable ups rate, as well. finally sent it via grayhound for around $40. and i too had to eat the cost of having a special box made.
i'm wondering if it's a similar deal here? is the item large enough so it's past the usps and ups limits for the more reasonable rates?

jrb3...You're right! I learned my lesson!
kittyx3- Absolutely similar deal here! I am just going to agree to take the neg. The next three highest bidders were all within .50 to 1.00 from my highest bid!!! I certainly learned this lesson the hard way!

It is odd though I just purchased a 35 pound itemn and she is charging me $34 to ship it USPS. Is your bulky or oversized?
