Does anybody know of a resource for dating
an older (hand crank w/ shuttle style bobbin)
Singer sewing machine? I have the serial numbers on the machine (F6603754), and the three throat plates (54512, 54513, 8323).

Thanks for any assistance!

J.A.

shaani,

It is a great site for dating featherweights, especially!

THANK YOU!!! Both great sites. Looks like
the machine in question may be ca. 1910-1915.

When I had one I called Singer at 800.474.6437 with the serial number and they told me down to the month/year when it was produced.

When you call that number, they can also tell you WHERE it was made! I have a 1918 that was made in Clydesbank, Scotland. The people at that toll free number are the ones who gave me all the info.

I haven't dated one in awhile, but from what I remember, it helps if you get it drunk first.

Need help in dating Singer sewing machine
Beat me to it, again, Jerry12!
Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, but sewing machines?!?
No clue.

jerry12 & zoomin: LOL!

Actually, I've had a relationship
with two of my three sewing machines (35 years and 25 years) longer
than I have with my husband
(12 years), so maybe there *is* some creedence to skipping the Mars/Venus thing and "dating" sewing machines.

Again, thanks to everyone for the info.

Moderator, I think you can lock the thread now.
