Hi! Well, this is a new one for me. I accepted an e-check payment from a verified Paypal customer. I sent out her item the next day because her feedback was good and then left her feedback (positive)....I received an e-mail from Paypal today saying she had cancelled the payment (she should have received her package from me today)....GRRRRR. I realize I should have waited for the e-check to clear...but I didn't (my bad). To even add to the story, the item was of religious nature....go figure! I have e-mailed Paypal with the info. Does anyone have any advise (not including how dumb I was for shipping before it cleared ) on further steps I can take regarding this problem...I'm so steamed, I can't think straight right now.....

I certainly would be more trusting because the item was religious in nature.
My Pop told me long ago, if you are buying a used car and someone makes a point of telling you how religious they are, to grab your wallet and hang on tight.

I am finding that the people who purchase religious items can be even worse than the rest.....
Case in point: I had a small cross shaped porcelain planter on ebay. A new user won the auction (along with about 35 others from other people). I sent my EOA to him, and the next day I get an email from him saying he lost his job 3 DAYS BEFORE HE BID ON MY ITEM and he couldn't pay. Of course he ended his email with "Thanks and God Bless"
Needless to say, I refused to let him off the hook, because I have heard that one too many times before (not to mention the fact that he had bid on 97 items in the past 2 weeks).
So of course, he emails me back with a scalding letter calling my item a "piece of crap" and that I am a jerk.
Then of course he NEG's me.
So, I NEG him because it is obvious he has no intention of completing the transaction.
I opened my email folder today, and here is the email I had waiting for me (and I am editing it for content):
"Dude,
my email to you was not profane. this is profane. stick your f***ing piece of s**t broken crap as far up your stinkin' a*s as it will go. PRICK."
And this wonderful eBay user supposedly lost his job from a religious organization, his username referred to a specific denomination, and his email address was from an online religious organization!
I give up.
Oh yeah, as far as your problem goes, File a Non Paying Bidder form with eBay, and pull their user info and verify that it is legit. This may be enough to scare them into paying. Worst case scenario, you may be able to get them NARU so they can't do this again to someone else.

You didn't mention if you had emailed or called her about this. Could be she is a steamed seller over the new Paypal fees and plans to make good.
I ship early too with feedback over 100 and no negs, worked well thus far.

Is it clear that she cancelled her payment, and it wasn't a 'bounced' echeck? Am asking out of pure curiosity, since I've never had a payment cancelled.

Well that's OK because you see it is an important person to God being taken care of which is what heathen slime like you are put on this earth to do.
Usually these people are superstitious if you want to yank on their chain for any reason.
Guy I worked with was so holy he would not go in a grocery store if they sold beer. Another fellow at work had a run in with him and started drawing eyes on everything this fellow had to use with little runes around them. Poor guy was a nervous wreak over those "devil eyes". It was a hoot. He would find them everywhere and never see the guy draw them.

I think the funniest thing about my situation with this "bidder" (and I use that word loosely) is that he told me that he collected Catholic items, and couldn't find any at decent prices, so even though he was against the internet, he got on eBay to get them.......

A lot of christians I know have the mentality that because they're saved, it doesn't matter what they do because they are "forgiven."
My brother is a "Christian" and he's also a rapist, but the church defends him because he is "forgiven" even though he is not sorry and rapes any woman he wants to.
Then my last paying job working for someone else was for a church nursery. After I was hired and they found out my child that they said I could bring to work with me is bi-racial, they fired me. I can't go to a white church because my daughter is part black, and everytime I go to a black church they won't welcome me because I'm white.
I think anyone who is vocal about their religion is just doing it to impress someone else for some reason. A true believer can be viewed by their actions, not their words.
Seems to me that the "believers" are the most prejudice people I've ever had to deal with. Where Christianity is concerned, this directly contradicts the non-bias ways of Jesus...
I definately agree with that. It seems their attitude is there way is the only way in all aspects of life, not just religion.
I am a Jew. My father is a Jew. My brother and my ex are both "Christian" and both have no remorse for anything they do to anyone.
In ever aspect of the Christian religion I've seen, men are dominant, women are floor mats to be beaten at the whim of their mates.
I have noticed that a majority of the batterers I've encounters were "devout Christians" who believe women should submit to their husbands and obey them. I've worked to help many battered women leave their abusers.
I've also noticed that all of the women I've encountered who have been abused were told from early in childhood that "when a boy hits you it means he likes you" right in the school system! This teaches the boys it's ok to hit girls (and later women) and it teaches girls to be quiet about it because no one wants to be bothered with her problems. It is no wonder women find it hard to leave when it is instilled in their subconscious since as early as 3 and 4 years old that "boys hit you if they like you". I then see them repeat that mind frame when they defend their batterers, "he only hit me because he loves me so much", etc.
Every woman that I helped get away, I brought this to their attention, and we talked about it. She would then understand the real reason she found herself unable to leave, that she was raised not to.
How'd we get from talking about auctions to this?? This is making me angry....I hate to think about this. I'm going to play some spades.

Wow, great responses...thank you so much! I've been away from the computer so I will try to catch up:
revvassago ....Wow, what a fine example of a Christian you are dealing with! I'm glad you did not let this person intimidate you. Sounds like a young kid if he started out his message "Dude"...
escandyo....I have not contacted her by phone...item was only $8.50 and not worth the long distance call, its just the principal of the of the whole situation. Too bad I already left feedback (my bad!)
tomwiii....thank you and God Bless
Islander...It was canceled...not bounced. I have not heard anything from buyer or Paypal yet (big surprise!)
redskinfan...Your last sentence is so true. I wish you good luck in finding a church that accepts you. I'm sure there is one out there somewhere! The great thing is...is that God hears your prayers anywhere, church or no church. Oh my, I'm starting to sound like an evangelist...I better shut up or nobody will bid on my auctions (smile)
I'm so sorry that you've had such a horrible time. I was brought up in a Christian home, but I am truly ashamed of the bigots and other evil people who SAY they are oh-so-holy and devout. I just fume when I see women trained to be doormats and men claiming "authority" over them. My mom and I are SO tired of the hypocrisy that abounds in the name of Christ, and one reason we're so much against the Republican party is that they are hostage to the same right-wing, intolerant radicals who are probably treating you like dirt. JMHO.
I can only suggest that you check out a Methodist church (they seem to be more socially liberal and tolerant--at least they are in my area), and leave behind the churches that judge you. Does you child have any mixed-race friends? Maybe you could find a church that way. Good luck!!!!!
Without eBay, I might have a real life...

redskinfan.........you would be welcome at our religious services, no one would even notice what color either of you are. Also people don't seat themselves in little cliques of 'color', and people are not invited to social functions dependant on their color. I appreciate you being sensitive to your child's awareness of being shunned, that is not Christian nor loving. I believe if you take this matter to God and tell Him your problem, leave it in His hands, an answer will become apparent. Sometimes the answer is not what you had in mind, but give prayer a chance. Hi, I am a Christian, and I have been for 17+ years, and I am very sorry that you guys have had such bad experiences with Christians.
Not all Christians are bad, most are not. Just as in most 'groups' there are extremists, (wife beaters) and there are those who twist the message to say what they want it to say, and there are those who follow part of the group part of the time, and go their own way the rest of the time.
Most of the Christians people talk about are not true representatives of Christianity. True Christians do not lie cheat and steal, do not cheat other people, do not abuse others, and do not puff themselves up. Most are humble & hard working, and loving. They follow the general belief that Christ loved everyone, not just a select few.
redskinfan, in my church, your brother would be confronted privately, about his behavior. He would not be sheltered and allowed to continue, but he also would not be made a public spectacle.
Forgiven is nice, but true repentance means NOT doing it again. Most Christians strive to NOT do wrong, because we believe that it grieves God's heart when we do.
Yes, it is a Christian belief to be a submissive wife. The majority of churches does NOT interpret this as a liscence to beat your wife. The men in some areas tend to forget that the very next sentence reads:
Men love your wives as Christ loved the Church (Remembering here, that our belief is that Christ DIED for the Church). So, if your husband LOVES you that much, 'serving' him is not a problem. I am my husband's helpmate and cheerleader, and he loves me DEARLY.
As far as buyers go, probably most of the 'christian' buyers are using that as a ruse. If they talk religious, they might get more trust, and might be better able to cheat the sellers. I am a Christian buyer, but I rarely even mention it in my emails, unless someone has an ID that sounds Biblical to me. I feel that my duty as a Christian buyer is simply to be honest, pay quickly, and leave the seller with a good feeling about the sale.
I'm sorry this post is long, but I wanted to address some of these issues. It seems that the other side of the Christian group is very seldom heard, and I wanted to let you guys all know that most of us are NOT bad people.

UPDATE:
I received the following e-mail from buyer of medals...If she is not telling the truth here, she has gone too far on describing her bad luck . I think I believe her, do you?
e-mail rec'd (with identifying info of auction and buyer deleted):
Hello,
I'm so sorry!
As you know, I was in an accident and ended up in the hospital
for a couple of weeks last month. During that time a
friend of mine was supposed to update my eBay stuff
so that bids would be made and payments sent out on
time. (She did fine on the bids, but made a mess of
the payments).
It took a good 3 days to untangle things, but by
Tuesday of this week I had everything updated and
payments sent out. Then on Wednesday my wallet &
checkbook were stolen, and my bank account
consequently drained. As you can imagine, this has
thrown my finances into chaos.
I have been busy buying money orders, trying to cover
outstanding checks, and setting up new accounts.
Unfortunately, it will be next Wednesday (June 13th),
before my accounts will be sufficiently replenished to
cover my outstanding debt.
This has been so frustrating! I swear I'm not a flake -
my husband and I own a home, pay our taxes, work for
Microsoft, and sing the national anthem at Mariners
games. :> But I digress....
If you want to cancel our transaction and re-list your
item, I certainly do understand. However, if you are
able to wait for payment until next Wednesday,
6-13-01, it will be sent out immediately.
Sincerely,
XXXXXXX
>True Christians do not lie cheat and steal, do not cheat other people, do not abuse others, and do not puff themselves up.
It's the people that "puff themselfs up" as being great Christains that I've learned to be leary of. The people I know that really are truly religious don't come across with a holier than thou attitude.
