This is a new one for me. Got an e-mail from deadbeat bidder (feedback of 5 with 4 negs -- one of 'em mine & now NARU) begging to buy the book he won on Apr. 25. Said he'd Paypal the $ (I don't take PP); asked if I would contact eBay to rescind the non-paying bidder notice I gave him, & he would be eternally grateful (as if...)

History: I sent him 3 e-mails, then a NPB, then filed for FV credit, & finally on May 29, gave him a neg. This was his 4th & he was NARU'd.

First of all, could I even rescind the non-paying notice? Out of curiosity, to whom would such a request be addressed?

Second, is there some neat wording I could use to decline his request? I assume he will be able to get back on with the same ID after 30 days, right? I also assume he could give me a retaliatory neg. at that time, right?

I was thinking along the lines of "Sorry, I don't take Paypal, & I am afraid that it is impossible to change the negative feedback you have received. However, if you would like to follow through with the transaction (all of $12.49 BTW) at this late date, send me a money order for $14.74 (bid price plus s/h of $2.25), & I'll send the book."

Sorta lacks punch, doesn't it?

I'd appreciate any help/advice on the wording etc. y'all could give me. Or, should I just ignore him?

Ellen

If you are feeling charitable you can go to the above (scroll down to para 5).
Non-Paying Bidder Warning Removal. Remove Warnings if you worked things out with the bidder after you had filed the Final Value Fee credit, you may use the Non-Paying Bidder Warning Removal Form within 90 days after the end of your auction to remove the warning for the bidder.

It removes the warning (and he'll be re-instated) and you have to pay the FVF again (I think).

As to whether to aquiesce, well that's up to you. If I still had the book, and he sent a money order (no check or PayPal) I'd do it. But then, I'm in it for the money.

You don't have to pay the fvf again if you email [email protected] and ask them to remove the warning in question.

Everyone deserves another chance. I have seen tons of people with many negatives when they first start out go onto to be power buyers with tons of feedback. Heather

It doesn't reinstate them. I had someone NARUed (it was accident in my case, however. I had sold 2 of same item and NPB the wrong one). I undid the NPB warning and he's still NARUed.

Could a seller charge a late fee (like the phone company does when you are late paying a bill) to sort of make up for her aggravation and extra time invested?

It takes about 2 minutes, if you feel you need to be paid for that, maybe you should not consider it at all.

Late fee! Now that's a great idea!

I already have done that...except reverse. I was late paying a few sellers back when my dad's wife died. Everytime something happens in the family, everyone turns to me for emotional stability....probably why I feel like I'm always having a nervous breakdown lol. Well my dad was talking about dying and he has a history of suicide attempts, so I was very worried. The rest of the family was supposed to help watch out for him, but of course I was the one having to do everything. I totally forgot about my auction bids...and it was the first time I'd bid on anything on ebay. So I checked my email and had all these angry emails wondering where their money is. I wrote them all saying I was sorry, explained briefly that there had been a death in the family and that I'd send a little extra for their trouble. I don't think they believed me but was being nice and gave me an extra week. I paid extra as promised and they left positive fb. One of the sellers, however, got really nasty, left neg. fb. Wrote me back saying what an awful, lying person I was, except not so nicely. That was my first ebay experience. lol

Thanks for your responses, everyone! Really helped me with the "mechanics" & my thinking about this issue.

Victoria & Heather: I think I'll give him another chance AFTER he sends me a money order for the book. You're right, none of us are perfect. But, boy, did he ever irritate me by not replying & not paying!

squinkle: I kinda like the "late fee" idea! Thanks for the laugh.

IF he goes thru with this sale, I'll write support@ebay. Wonder how to word that letter?

Dear support:

This buyer is remorseful & has decided to pay after all. Please remove the NPB & charge me a Final Value fee for this sale?

If he's reinstated, I sure hope he doesn't give me a retaliatory neg (the old "no good deed goes unpunished" fear for the one I left him when he "deadbeated" on the first go-round. *sigh*
