I don't know how to do it but you may want to consider that automatic email responce will be responding to spam as well, thereby confirming a valid email address for them.

Under tools, click "Message Rules".
Then, select "Mail"
Click "NEW"
In the upper box, select "For All Messages"
In the middle box, select "Reply with message".
In the bottom box, click on the blue underlined word, message, and type your message.
When you are done, click OK.
The only problem, is that I could never get it to work without leaving my computer on, and connected to the internet.
What you might want to do is get an account at yahoo.com.
You can then forward ALL your mail from your outlook account to Yahoo. On Yahoo, you can use their auto reply to say you are on vacation. That is what I'd do.

FIRST, you may want to write a reply and have the file on your desktop, because you are going to have to access it as your reply.
In e-mail:
Click on Tools:
Click Message Rules:
Click Mail
Click New
Under Section 1. Select conditions for your rule---check For all messages
Under Section 2. Select actions for your rule--check Reply with message
Under Section 3. Rule description--click on the word message, which should be underlined.
This will open a little window for you to select a file to use as the message you want to reply to e-mails with.

I appreciate the info also. Although, I use the "rules" for putting mail in files, I hadn't thought about using it for an autoresponder.
The problem I see in using it for an autoresponder on any type of a regular basis is I don't see how, without writing and deleting and rewriting one could use it on a regular, but spasmodic basis.
I see how it would function for one going on vacation, but I often get an autoresponse from people out of town for a day, or out of the office for the afternoon, or other limited times, and this is what I'd like to put an autoresponder on for.
Is there anyway to simply turn the Outlook Express Autoresponder on and off without having to delete and rewrite it every time you use it?
