Do any of you go to antique malls, write down items and their prices and then go home and look them up on Ebay? I was walking through an antique mall and thought of this. I think I might start if it will be profitable for me.

I think the antique dealers look their items up on eBay, write down the prices, add 10-50%, then put them on their shelves.

It would be great if you could do that for garage sales, but you can't, you have to take your best guess & take a chance.
Have to agree with reddeer, those antique sellers know the value of what their selling.

I disagree. I have made several good purchases at antique malls and made money on ebay with them.

Any antique dealer will tell you that they are not knowledgable in all areas. There is just too much out there.

I purchased a mesh purse for $18.00 and later sold it for $70.00. Purchased a set of bowls for $25.00 that later sold for $65.00.

Will you find the "Big sleeper" there? Probably not, but never give up looking.
Many of the dealers in our area do not even own computers, much less know how to look for at item.

I had one a couple of weeks ago that asked me the difference between a regular camera and a digital. When I took his picture and showed it to him on the camera, he was blown away. When I erased it, he just roared with laughter.

there are sleepers in evry shop no one can know it all
I have bought items at antique malls and resold nicely
most items in antique malls are grossly overpriced but you just have to keep looking
Ratehr than writing down the prices I use a amsll pocket size tape reorder...I make less mistakes that way

Another thing Antique malls are good for: learning. I've learned alot from going there and touching, feeling, examaining - same way with live auction. Auctioneers are just chock full of good information that they impart to their audience!

I agree with rarriffle. I have found some great finds at antique malls. Since I'm a cartoon glass freak (hence the name), I am quite knowledgeable in that area. I found a tall Universal Studios glass of The Creature From the Black Lagoon for $4...they sell for $45 easily on Ebay. I also found a Slowpoke Rodriguez glass for $5...these go for $30 on Ebay. And I found a complete 1957 set of Bugs Bunny Coloring Books from Whitman for $10. It's so nice I don't dare to sell it. If you just keep your eyes peeled you find great deals. I have the proof and the experience. But like mrspock said, no one can know everything about everything. I am sure I have left profit-makers sit on the shelves before. Ah, only if I knew it all!

rarriffle : Your digital camera story really made me smile. Thanks for sharing that!
