First of all, this IS NOT intended to be a political thread. That having been said...
Most everyone on these boards knows that I'm a Republican and a Bush supporter (actually more of a non-Gore supporter, but that's all water under the bridge at this point). I make no apologies for this. I DO respect the opinions and political views of those on the other side however. I may not agree with them very often but I DO respect them.
I have come to understand that the handle dubyasdaman leaves a bad taste in the mouths of a few of the other posters who are NOT Bush supporters. I can understand this and I apologize if anyone here felt that by choosing that handle I was flaunting the Bush semi-win in the election in the face of the Gore supporters. I AM happy that the election turned out the way it did. To say otherwise would be a lie. But it was never my intention to rub it in by choosing that handle. I simply felt that it was a good way to express my support for the new President. I now feel that this was a mistake.
From now on I will go by the handle MrBusinessMan.
Moderator: Please suspend the ID dubyasdaman as I won't be using it anymore. Thanks to all for making my use of the AW message boards so entertaining and educational. And that sincere thanks extends to those on the other side of the "aisle".

Well, from the "other side of the aisle" I'd like to say ... You're an honorable man and I wish you well.

this isn't supposed to be a political thread, but that $600 check will put your grandkids in debt before they get their first job.

That's an easy one! It's because the $600 is a rebate of last year's taxes.
The folks who are paying taxes for the first time this year will pay under the lower rates that go into effect July 1.

MrB, a while back I changed my ID at the request of another user. The old ID was ebay12step. One user wrote a long, impassioned speech and posted it, about how the ID was making fun of those involved in 12-step programs, yada yada. It was never ny intention to make fun of anyone, but I changed my ID anyway.
That same poster has continued to poke fun and make abusive remarks, since even before the name change. If anyone else is thinking of changing their ID to suit another's tastss, I suggest you stick to your guns and tell the other party to grow some thicker skin. "I don't like your ID" is just another form of trolling on these boards. If they don't like your handle, tell them to go jump in a lake. MHO.

I certainly understand what you're saying and I agree with it. But I didn't change my ID because someone asked me to (no one asked or even suggested it). I have received no harrassment whatsoever over it. I changed it because I myself wanted to change it. A few posters on here, while not complaining, expressed a distaste for the ID. I changed it due to a sense of respect for the feelings, opinions, and political beliefs of the other posters, not as the result of a request.

Let me second that statement. I have much respect for anyone who feels stongly about issues, as long as they have they have the same respect me.

Excuse my wording. I don't recall if a request was stated specifically. However, like you, a number of posters expressed "distaste." I am glad you are going along with your feelings on this, but I will repeat my point above that "we don't like your ID" is just another form of trolling. My statements were directed at anyone who finds themselves in the same predicament.

dubyas/mrb,
i'm another on the other side of the aisle, although for me it was that i disliked bush only somewhat more than gore. (probably more a matter of disliking politicians in general.) must admit, i did find your name a little hard to take at first, but then got used to it. usually i agree with your posts, and even when i don't i find them well-written and interesting. i appreciate your intention here.

I always make it a point of discussing religion and politics.
There's nothing wrong with standing for a candidate in a non-pushy way. The name is hardly offensive. There's a world of difference between political correctness and the First Amendment.
Did anyone ever tell you they were offended?

No. Not even once. But I could tell from what some of the posters DID say that it bothered them. Again, I changed my ID because [b]I[/i] wanted to change it. It was only a handle, not my soul. It was no big deal for me to make the change.
For the most part, I think that EVERYONE who posts here on a regular basis does a good job at getting their points across. You folks have taught me a lot on these boards.
Now, how about another shipping or "who should leave feedback first" thread?

Since we're on the topic of user ID's, how did everyone else choose their ID? i.e. What does your ID mean?
