Is anyone going to the big antique/collectibles show in Walnut, Iowa this weekend? (June 15-18) My mom and I are going. Friday we are going to scrounge around Omaha looking for some goodies and then Friday night, Saturday and Sunday we will be going to Walnut. I've never been there, but it's supposedly one of the biggest shows in the midwest. Something like 19 city blocks. I can't wait. Is anyone else planning on going? Just curious.

I was in Walnut, Iowa last year. We were looking around at all the shops there. Good places to eat, too We got some info. there about the big antique show they have (I think last year it was on Father's Day weekend too). We didn't go, but I'd sure like to go this year. We talked to one of the restaurant owners there in Walnut and he said it was really nice - lots of vendors, lots of good food. If you go, you might look up Sandy's (I'm pretty sure that's the name) Kind of like a little pub/restaurant. They had the BEST garlic cheeseburger there!! Have fun!!

Nice place to see, but the prices are high, most people price as if on "The eBay". The food is great. Get there early for best parking, or like walking.

Walnut is about 75 miles west of Des Moines on Interstate 80.
There are signs posted on the interstate that say Walnut is "Antique City." They have several antique shops.
It's a good show, but prices are high. Have to remember that it's an antique show, not a flea market or a garage sale.

Thanks Lucy,
I've been over I80 West many times and I sure don't recall seeing a sign like you mentioned.
But I think your right about the prices being out of sight. Not any bargins there to re-sale on eBay I bet.

I was in Walnut a year ago and once years before that. Nice little town. I've never been there for the show.
I found a good sleeper in one of the antique shops. Have fun!

I have found super good deals at the Walnut Antique/Collectibles Show. Last year I got an old soaky toy for $2...it sold for $258! Now if that isn't a good find I don't know what is! If you are willing to look and haggle with the sellers you will get good deals. I think it's such a blast. Hope others of you can make it! It's worht the time.

Where abouts in Iowa are you? Judging form you name alone (packer) I would guess you're from the northeast. If I am right in guessing that packer is referring to the Green Bay Packers. Just curious.

Seems that several of us may be from Iowa. How about that large hail we had today? I didn't have damage, but a friend of mine across town now has a dented car and smashed windshield. Several car lots have broken windows also.
Walnut has several antique shops. Prices seem high, but I work in an antique shop with high-end furniture and glass, so I'm used to high prices.
Walnut's antique fair will keep us busy also this weekend with all the buyers out on the interstate.

Spent a good portion of the night in the basement tonight due to tornado warnings. Tennis ball sized hail struck us and caused a lot of damage. Luckily no tornadoes touched down around us. Closest one that touched down was about 20 miles north. Still close enough!!
Anyway, may I ask where in Iowa you are? I am in Rock Valley...extreme NW corner about 50 miles north of Sioux City. And any other information about yourself you don't mind stating. I am 21, male, and am a college student.

Several of our clients are in Des Moines this week at our offices. They all have rental cars. None of them got the insurance. Hail is an act of god according to the rental car places and the driver is responsable for the damage. Ouch! They had 1 broken windshield and one car dented badly so far that I know of.
At the Mercadies Dealer in Urbandale a lady brought her new car in to be worked on. While the car was there the storm passed through and damaged the car sitting outside. Again an act of god and the dealer said sorry but it is not our fault.
Kind of a pisser but they are correct.
Jim
Forgive my spelling.

cartoonglassfreak,
Yes, I'm right in the middle of Iowa.......6 miles from Fort Dodge.
Packer name is from the ball players.
Its my little dog, the only way this little fellow would give him up was if I kept his name. The little (6 years old) was a die hard packer fan.
So I kept his name but often times I call him "PECKER"
They gave him up because he was to rowdy for the little ones.
But........I LOVE HIM TO DEATH........he is the neatest dog I've ever owned.

Cartoonglassfreak,
I'm in Des Moines. We have a family-owned antique shop that I work at. I may be single, but I'm certainly not as young as you are. I'm just an old grandma.
Iowa weather is so weird. Had my furnace on a week ago, now my air is on. I have a feeling that we are going to have a HOT HOT HUMID HUMID summer this year.

We were lucky yesterday. The storm just missed us. I know what you mean about furnace running last week and air conditioner running this week. We have really has a strange spring this year.
This is first time in 10 years I didn't get a garden in.
Saturday I'm going to a auction about 50 miles west of here. Its the estate of a 103 year old woman. Lots and Lots of collectables.....I can't wait. Its going to be a good one.

Where is that auction at? There's also a really good one in George, Iowa. Many antiques/collectibles from a 90 year old woman. I can't make it as I will be in Walnut. My sister lives only 5 miles from George so she is going to check it out for me. I just hope I find some great stuff this weekend. Hope you do too!

Hi cartoon....
Its over in Lake City. Its a farming community. I really like the auctioneers, they like to lump stuff together. Their not into piecing it out.
We don't get to see their advertisments in our papers around here so I've got them sending me the ad so I know when their having an auction and they know what I like to buy.
Some of my best deals have come from their auctions. About ever 4 to 6 weeks they have a good one.

Wow, a lot of people from Iowa around here! My family will be moving to South West Iowa in 2 weeks. My husband will be working in Des Moines. Now I wish we were going a week earlier, but then again, after the move I'll be so broke for awhile, I'm sure I'd never be able to buy anything anyway.

Lived in Iowa for many years (CR), and loved it. I would like to go to the antique fair.
Do you think there are any direct flights to there from Spring, Texas?????

I'm in northern Missouri which is a lot like Iowa. Makes we want to watch the CornCam.
I'm supposed to be an ebay seller but all I do is watch corn grow all day long, here:

I hope everyone who is going to Walnut and the auctions finds some good deals. I get to work all weekend. Anyone who comes through on Interstate 80, at the Second Avenue exit, stop and say "hello" at the Lion.
