Are your eBay sales down? Are you having a rash of NPB?
Last year at this time, I could have sold ice cubes at the North Pole.
I’m selling the same types of Items, using a better camera, writing better ads … & loosing money.
Is it just me? Or, are other sellers seeing the same trend?

I started on Ebay about 4 years ago...
My sales are way down and getting worst with every change Ebay makes!

My fees have tripled with Ebay as well.

I used to clear about 4 to 5 grand a month 3 years ago...now I am lucky to clear 1 grand.

I almost quit my full time job when things were good...glad I did not...

Anyways Ebay was good back then..I bought a House, Nice Boat, New Mountain Bike, Dirt Bike, Waterki, Camera, Furniture...went on a couple of Nice Vacations...It allowed my Wife to be a stay at home Mom ...which is great!

Ebay has just screwed it all up ..they are slowly steering it to corporate sellers.

It used to be so much fun,,,I dont find it that way anymore...

Sales are steady but prices have fallen a bit over last summer for me. Of course they have fallen a great deal since I started over 3 years ago.

What jadejim said.

My sales are steady, but I have to move twice as much stuff because the ending prices are
lower overall.

The past two weeks have been great for me, especially this week. Prices are good too, way above what I thought the items would sell for.

Three weeks ago was terrible - I couldn't give my items away. Try and figure it out, I can't!

I find ebay up and down. Last 2 weeks were bad new But could be the things I sell. If my bids drop , I don't like to put on what I perceive as high sellers ~ i put on low end stuff and then get discouraged LOL. and then bids drop more etc. This week I put on some items that are good sellers ~ all in a series and offered clear and discount rates to both Canada and international and did very well! However, I am only listing items that I paid very little for ~ the high end items that I may have paid money for I am going to wait till the fall when prices generally start to climb up but nothing is better than it was 2 years ago ( but I mostly sold on amazon and the books I sold today would have sold for $ 10.00 to $ 40. a piece and today some sold for $ 5.00 up to $ 20.00 ! ( about 1/2 the price). I think some of the changes on ebay and paypal and and and ...others who are wanting their cut ie postal rates etc. really dig into the profits of the smaller end items. Good luck next week all~ I am going away soon and for the first time in 2 1/2 years am taking a break from auctions. Can't believe it as I am so addicted to them! Suzanne

This time of year, my sales are up. (winter is my slow time)

The first rule of business is ALWAYS act like business is good, even when it isn't (or even more so when it isn't)

My sales *always* go down at this time of year. Not surprising as I sell mostly books--& during the summer most people are more interested in gadding about...

My sales are up. I quit my part-time job the first of May and so far I'm making more than I did at my "real" job. When sales are down, I figure it's either (1) a poor item or (2) a great item offered at the wrong time. I don't look at it as being e-bay's fault--they offer me millions of customers and it's up to me to rope 'em in.

Sales and amounts down by half... by my count, thats 10 on the down side, with 3 enjoying good sales. Wrong stuff right now I suppose... maybe we need to switch to suntan lotion, beach towels and sunglasses!

I have been selling on eBay since 1999. The word you need to consider is Competion. I sold rubbish lots to The World for very high prices in 1999/2000 That market has now gone as everybody is now doing it.

My Sales are the same if not better. Successful auctions at a 93% rate and prices just as high if not higher. If you have good merchandise and provide qualtiy service you will have good sales.

Sales have been very slow this month - I'm seriously looking at operating at a loss this month.. but still have a 33% profit margin for the year, so I can't complain yet.. hopefully things will pick up again soon.

I took last summer off because I thought sales would go down. Most of my items listed currently have multiple bids.

I think many sellers take the summer off, which is less competition for you. Keep listing a few items just so your your regular bidders can see you are still in business. Save items you are hoping to score big with for the fall and winter.

You may be pleasantly surprised with listing just a few items a week.

I've been on eBay since 1996 - and on other sites, and have web sites also. This has been the slowest 2 weeks that I recall in YEARS - regardless of the time of year, I've never seen it so slow so fast.

Certainly there is more competition and such, but items which 2 weeks ago were flying out the door have almost gone dormant - actually I can't figure it out.....no back history of such a phenomena.

The hits on the auctions and web site are slower, but there, buy the buyers are just not buying.

My eBay sales have been doing rather well the past month. I sell contemporary collectibles. I'm shocked at the success having heard horror stories about the summer lull and not having sold on eBay until early this year. Sell-through is now up over 80% after today. Again most of my items get taken using the Buy It Now feature although most don't get bids until a day or so before listing expiration. All of my listings start well above item cost + fees --- no $1 starts for me --- and has to be the main reason my auctions don't get early bids. eBay has a virtual monopoly on auction bidders, and there ARE bidders this time of year. You just have to offer compelling deals to get people to open their wallets.

I've been vocal in complaining about eBay's policies toward sellers, but I certainly can't complain about sell-through. Have to give credit where credit is due!

As an aside, I wish eBay would offer sellers the option to view how many people have your items on their watchlist. Yahoo has this nice feature. Like I said I have no clue how my auctions will do until they end. This feature would provide insight into people's interest and whether to relist unsold items.

You bet. The more people hear about the riches ebay offers the more people list.

The more people list the more there is.
The more the supply.

The more the supply the less the demand.

You bet it's down.

The only way to stay ahead of the curve is what most successful business people do all day...figure out what the next trend will be.

An impossible task achieved in most instances by fluke. Even Martha Stewart was surpized.

Yes my sales are in half with a much, much lower sell through.

Usually opening bid is IT. Time to move on to a real money situation and make ebay a hobby again.

Ebay knows it too. That's why their push is for corporate and large biz accounts.

I need to add this:

With the proliferation of the internet, everyone who used to have a "blind" garage sale, now looks up the worth on ebay first to see what's it's worth.

They either price it that way, or make it such that you can't make a profit after fees.

Auctions are worse. The good stuff in either of these "supply" sources have been gobbled up by ebay's own success. They (ebay) saw it coming and again, the reason they are "dating" the corporate clientle is for that very reason.

It really is a no-brainer.

>>>>Ebay has realy ticked off a large portion of the bidders and buyers withn there outages, rules, and fees....<<<<

I can say as a bidder this is not what has turned me away. Luckily I haven't been on during an outage and unless the seller includes it in their sales, the rules & fees don't affect me on a basis of not bidding. What has turned me away:

**Auctions where sellers won't list the shipping price. I WON'T bid if the auction says "buyer pays shipping/handling". No info, no bid. Not worth the hassle of emailing the seller to ask (unless I *really* want something).

**Auctions where I bid and am constantly outbid by newbies. That is not my complaint BUT what is my complaint is when I go to bid on a similiar item I notice the SAME newbie has bid on it and MANY others as well. I have come across this A LOT lately. I have found that I don't even bother bidding on the particular item because I am sure to lose or be outbid by the same bidder who has bid on all the others, as these bidders always put their maximum bids high on each auction.

Otherwise, it has been so hot that I have been spending time out in the pool and away from my computer (most likely the same excuse for other bidders.)

Hoping sales pick up for you all
