I set one up, just a test - it says I have 10 days and not the 30 it advertised - also it says any orders will be scrambled until I decide to 'convert'.
noteye
My thoughts on this issue have gone 'Un-Surveyed' and may not be of importance to the P.T.B.

yahoo shop is a real class act !!(of course with the appropriate price tag!)
the pictures show up very nicely and each item gets a full page with 2 pictures.
it is easy for the customer to place an order and it is easy for shopowner to manage.
back office support is provided by not just yahoo but oracle,paymentech/first data entry and monetta/
each day it shows you the traffic to your shop, where it comes from and what items they look at.
there are some features which is not easily found in other sites-electronic coupon, you can create coupons online and let you customer knows it is there and specify the expiration date.
options-when you list an item, you can use option feature to indicate there are more than one color or size?
or you can use it to list accessories,if you sell printer, you can list your paper, cartridges on the same page as your printer.
it also allows an item to show up in more than one section ,say you have a book on asian arts, you can make it show up under books, under asian arts and under whatever you please.
it requires some planning how you want to mapout your store, one way to do it is to experiment by creating a shop for some items, look at it from customer point of view,if you dont like it,scrap it and create another one.
good luck!
one note - backoffice aspect of credit card processing is not as streamline as amzn or billpoint, but it has more flexibility in the shopfront,it accepts different credit cards, plus yahoo direct and whatver you want to include, like paypal, cash,mo,personal check, even billpoint.
shipping charge is determined by a table you define either by weight or by order size $$.
the best way like i said,is to experiment by opening a store to get the feel of what it is like.
you will realise it is not something which can be had for 9.95 or 39.99
monthly fee for 50 items is 100 dollars,1000 items is 300 dollars, processing credit card thru paymentech is 22.95 for a 6 months commitment,no extra fee from yahoo when item is sold unless it exceeds a certain level.
you get your own URL,email addresses .
yahoo will submit your shop to major search engines .
someone mention yahoo directory which will cost 199 one time submission fee.

I took a look at the Yahoo Store Fronts a few months back and they are EXPENSIVE, and like "noteye" commented, what they advertise and what you may get like on the "trial" period are 2 different things. This is typical of Yahoo, and after all the flip flopping they have done regarding their auctions, TOS, etc., I want nothing to do with anything involved with Yahoo -
I know eBay changes their rules all the time, but they do announce, they do explain, and whether or not you agree, at least you know what the rules are. NOT SO on Yahoo, the rules change depending on Yahoo's mood, no one is notified, and they cancel almost anything based on their illusive TOS rules.
NOPE, wouldn't think of a long term involvement with Yahoo. Also when they pull something from their auction for TOS, you don't get a refund like eBay. Be careful dealing with Yahoo!

yahoo shop-
forget to mention giftwrap service, you can offer giftwrap for a fee !!
paymentech fee is 22.95 per month with a 6 months commitment,so if you close your shop in less than 6 months, you will still pay 22.95 each month to paymentech.
it is a class act ,your shop will be in the company of superstores, musuems and upscale boutique shops,if you are used to selling in auctions, looking for the cheapest packaging material from supermarket and liquor stores dumpsters, you need to rethink your strategy.
shoppers are willing to pay retail price as they shop for gifts for wedding, graduation, father, mother, birthday etc.
Prompt delivery and nice presentation is expected, item should be new, mint and flawless unless specified upfront.
how would you like to receive a wedding gift after your wedding in a box which is stained with ketchup and outside it said DEL MONTE!!!

if yahoo is offering a 30 days free trail to open a shop and the regular instructions on how to open a shop does not mention a free trial, assume the free trial is in place.
it sounds like either no one told the programmers or they just do not feel they need to make a change???
you can contact their sales staff and confirm the free trial.
