It looks like ebay and paypal customer service use the same people. My auctions were recently closed with no explanation. I am a seller with over 2 years on ebay, only positives, not even a neutral. It took 3 days to get a response that my auctions were closed for "keyword spamming." I am selling a battery for a specific camera and committed the "crime" of naming the camera. I replied to ebay that I wanted three questions answered:

1) why was this done without even an email of explanation?
2) how can I sell a battery made for a specific camera if I can't name it?
3) Why do 90% of the battery auctions in the digital camera section mention the name of the camera (the only exceptions being the ones for standard AA batteries) but only mine were shut down?

I have since received another reply stating that the correct action was taken, but offering no answer to any of the three questions. I then called ebay and spoke to a live person. She offered no answers to any of these questions but insisted that all I can say in my auction is "camera battery." How the heck is a buyer supposed to figure out what this means? So it looks like ebay stupidity has effectively blocked me from ever listing there again.

In the meantime my credit card expired and ebay is now emailing me to update my info. Why should I bother since I can't sell there anyway? I owe them about $14, which they keep reminding me. I'm tempted to reply:

"I'm sorry but you violated my policy against number spamming. I don't allow any numbers in my email, whether arabic, roman or spelled out in words. If you do this once, your emails will be deleted. After a warning, I will permanently block your emails."

If I have to put up with their stupid rules because it's their site, they should have to put up with mine because it's my email ID.

I just shake my head in wonder. Every time I find one of these threads--I just can't believe the idiocy these people will bow to. I just bet every potential bidder wants to e-mail you to find out what type of camera that battery will fit--NOT!!

What's esp. sad is that some dweeb probably reported this to eBay. I see "speakers for a ..." all the time. Who would ever think of reporting it? D'oh!

For sale: parts for a model number [oops, I can't tell you that!]

Ebay's beef doesn't even make sense...how can you market an accessory (such as a battery) unless you also state what it's used for?

Bizarre situation..

I can see where you are comming from, yisgood. They have my EXPIRED credit card number~I tried updating it and it wouldn't take, so I left it. Now, I list all my stuff, and send them a "One Time Payment" and ignore thier emails. If they are too silly to realize that the card is expired then too bad. I pay 'em anyhow. My biggest beef with them is relists; ever notice how if you change ANYTHING on the listing it does not count as a true relist, and you get charged all the fees without the chance of a refund on them...

Izzy,

I suppose you could set up listings that said "battery for a M*VIC* 91 " or "19 ACIVAM YNOS >spelled backwards<" or some similar code. Riiight

The key here as you damn well know is that if similar listings aren't getting cancelled, perhaps you're being singled out. In my best Henry Kissinger accent, "Even paranoids have real enemies." I guess you have to go through the drill, asking questions like you have, to make sure this isn't an easily correctable piece of stupidity by some Safeharbor newbie who ruled on a single complaint, or some sort of tweaking by a lower-level administrator that'll get overruled before it becomes really embarassing.

Edited to add: Whoops, I didn't notice the other, longer thread. If the objection is to naming the camera brand in the title only, but allowed still in the text, there's maybe less likelihood you're being singled out.

So far one ebay underling told me that I am not allowed to name camera and my listing can only say "battery" and two more have responded that she is correct. So it doesn't look like I have much hope of ever listing there again.

I just came across an auction on ebay by a shooting star (10,000+ feedback). He is auctioning his ebay shooting star jacket. Talk about ebay trashing! He says he would have started the auction lower to reflect the real value but 1 cent is the lowest ebay will allow and don't worry, he only spit on the box not the jacket. He goes on to trash ebay for several paragraphs. If this is the way ebay treats their heavy sellers, little guys like me don't stand a chance.

I thought I had posted to this thread but it was the other one. LOL! They both have the same title. Just a little observation.

That is simply absurd!

I have been recently wanting to get another extra battery for my dig cam and I check all the time for a good deal. There is one seller that always has TONS of batteries listed but when you actually go onto the auction they aren't even that brand...Just some generic crap for which they are charging just as much as the authentic ones. Nonetheless, it says the brand name ALL OVER THE PLACE leading one who may not pay attention to believe they ARE the name brand. It appears that people are seldom dumb enough to bid on his stuff but it seems obvious that this person has every intention of misleading the buyers...
Why don't they stop someone like that!

There should be NO REASON that you can't list what specific products your batteries will work in! GEEZ! Getting out of hand here!
