I purchased a book from half.com that was described as 'like new.' It is a large heavy book and was mailed in a padded envelope with no additional protection. It really took a beating. The binding is loose and pages are protruding outside the book cover. Half.com has the procedure set up to "report problem to seller." I've done that twice in the past 10 days, however, I've still not had a response. Does it take this long? When I reported the problem did it go to half.com or to the seller? Has anyone had any problems like this with half.com?

I had a problem once, I didn't receive the video I ordered. After about 5 weeks of waiting for delivery I did the complaint thing and eventually received 2 copies of the same video and a refund. It took several weeks though for anything to happen.
I imagine they are swamped with complaints. Too many shoddy sellers.

I had a problem with a seller on Half.com I sell on Half.com but I also buy. I have taken notice you have to be REAL careful of what you buy there. I check the rating and see what people say about their shipping etc. . .
Anyway go through the complaint process tell them you want you money refunded. I went through this when I didn't hear from the seller I wrote half.com directly and told them if they didn't refund my money. The product was useless. The goof sent it in a thin paperback. That I would do a charge back. You can do that with credit cards. I had no problem then. They gave me my money back because they don't want to be known in the business as the charge back company with all the lousy stuff.
Why should that seller keep you money. If it happens enough times maybe they will start shipping correctly.
It goes through half.com to the seller if the seller doesn't repsond in a certain amount of day I think it is 3 may be 5 Half.com is suppose to refund your money.
BTW Only three refunds allowed during a lifetime of an account per person.

half.com also has ripoff buyers. I noticed 2 in particular. This one will buy movies and each time will lie on the seller's fb that the movie was damaged. I noticed that he had done this to at least 20 sellers.
Then another one will buy cds, then rate the seller bad claiming he got a cassette tape instead of a cd. This one has done this to around 40/50 sellers at least.
I encountered both of them and ended up with a 2.3 rating out of possible 5 because only 3 people had rated me.
You do not get a chance to respond to feedback and tell everyone what a liar they are. You would think that if they were legit and had so many bad experiences with cds and movies that they'd stop buying right?? And if half.com were legit, they'd figure out what they were up to and boot em off before they rip off more sellers, but they allow them to continue, getting free merchandise along the way.

Thanks everyone for all the tips. I'm just not familiar enough with the half.com rules. Somewhere on there I read if you did a chargeback you could get banned. I wouldn't mind being banned from half.com but does it carry over to Ebay? I guess I will give them another week or so. Then if I still haven;t heard from anyone I'll do a chargeback provided it doesn't count against me on Ebay.

I had one problem buying on Half.com - a CD I ordered never arrived. The site rules required that I wait 30 days before filing a request for problem resolution. I received an email basically telling me to wait a while and see if it turned up. After an additional 30 days and a number of back-and-forth emails, Half.com finally conceded that the CD was probably lost in the mail. I assume it was mailed first class or media, since the seller had no way to track it.
It took almost three months before they finally refunded my purchase price - along with a sternly worded email to let them know IMMEDIATELY if the CD showed up, so that they could re-charge my credit card.
I am an honest person and would have told them if it did ever show up. But after that email, I would have been sorely tempted to just forget about being honest.

I quit selling on half.com because of people lying about the items I had shipped out. I have come to realize half.com is overun with everything and the items don't bring nothing either.
