I found it a little ironic that eBay was lobbying against spam considering that the bulk of my spam this week came from them. Maybe it would be a more accurate headline if it was to say "Ebay lobbies against non-eBay spam."

Ebay had problems with spammers harvesting addresses off the auction site. I was once spammed by a spammer who was selling a CD-ROM with several million addresses he claimed braznely were taken off ebay. I forwarded the email I got to safeharbor and my guess is others did as well. This is what they are complaining about. They ultimately went to the trouble of having to forward email in order to keep this from happening. I know some think there are perhaps more sinister motives for this, but I think ebay is legit on this. As for the spam you talk about getting from ebay, what is it, specifically?

Ebay is just upset that they don't get fees for all the spam mail sent to its members.

It's like their latest:

Wanna buy a "Free Magnetic Therapy Bracelet" cheap?

Talk about a TIMELY thread!

I received a WARNING email from ebay this morning. It said that my account had been used to send SPAM. I NEVER send SPAM. I HATE to receive it and I'll NEVER, EVER send it.

Why was I warned? Because my EOAs contain offers for upgrades to the item won in the auction. This is ridiculous as it is NOT SPAM...

Sounds like eBay wants a legal way to use the law in order to penalize those who avoid their fees.
