We had severe flooding in Louisiana (30" of rain in less then a week this is 6" less then we had all of last year) and I still have items being shipped today that were paid for over 2 weeks ago. Due to my shipping service being flooded.
When My shipping service was flooded, now not only do I have to do all my own packing and shipping for the next 3 weeks but I had to buy water proof padded mailers and repack 100+ items that were soaked in the flood. Not to mention my ceiling in my kitchen fell in due to failed gutters.
Plus the post office that is 5 blocks from my home was flooded so I can't walk to the post office. And the next nearest one is over a mile away and I don't have a car.
Fortunately my customers have been very understanding, and when explained the situation were more then understanding.
My customers are the best.
I put this notice in my EOA notice explaining the possible delay
PLEASE NOTE DUE TO CONTINUAL FLOODING IN THE GULF SOUTH ITEMS MAY BE DELAYED. CURRENTLY OUR POST OFFICE IS FLOODED SO I NEED TO GET TO A DIFFERENT ONE (I DO NOT HAVE A CAR). I HAVE TAKEN THE PRECAUTION OF PURCHASING PLASTIC PADDED MAILERS TO PROTECT YOUR ITEMS HOPEFULLY EVERYTHING WILL BE BACK TO NORMAL BY WEEKS END
I was incredibly surprised when my payments started coming in on the 150 items that closed during the flood. I have received 14 payments with $5 to $25 extra with payment for the item, with instructions to either use it to clean up any damage I may have incurred or to donate it to a releif fund for the flood victims.
Luckily it has been declared a disaster area so Federal releif will be availible.
On the positive side I used to use the brown paper padded mailers. With the rain and flooding walking to the post office in the rain ruins these mailers I purchased a box of white plastic padded mailers. Not only are these water proof they are stronger, more durable and weigh less then the paper ones. Even though they are $20 more per 500, which is only $.04 per mailer. I have received several compliments on these new ones.
