Man, it would be an obvious way to boost revenues and increase usage of the PayPal payment services! If they teamed up with someone (or did it themselves) and offered free Storefronts to their millions of users, AND placement on a marketed Shopping Mall page, they could put a serious dent in eBay's plans to dominate eCommerce (doubt they will anyway since their auction site will pummel Storefront sell-through due to an inability to price competitively). PayPal would have no problems marketing their user's Storefronts with the millions of NECESSARY daily emails they send and co-branded marketing.
It would also add some value to the 30 cent plus 2.2% fee we sellers pay now! Would also eliminate various fee buffer layers we currently have to wade through. If I sell a Storefront item, I wouldn't mind if I payed a single, say 3% aggregate fee to PayPal instead of all the other intermediaries. Instead they're likely to shrink themselves into obscurity!

I think that is what they were doing with Paypal Shops. I actually have used the shops before with great success.
This way they get the fees from sales without having to host the images and run a site.

i asked paypal this question once, the answer is that they are a financial service and intend to remain such.
what you describe is AMAZON ONE CLICK ON MARKETPLACE-sell you book on amzn and once sold,we collect the money and send you net proceeds (listed price less 99 cents less 15% commision plus 2.20 shipping subsidy)twice a month.
amzn is forecasting a profit for the next quarter,it is closing some of its distribution centres as this concept proves to be very profitable for amzn,it provides the venue for you to sell your books, dvd and videos side by side with theirs,in return it is getting a very nice cut without stocking these goods and running to the post office, dont forget it gets to keep your money up to 2 weeks -beats borrowing money from the bank!!
amzn is the most trafficed site .

hwahwahwahwa,
Yup from my experience Amazon Marketplace kicks butt!!! They finally stumbled on something that works! Can you imagine what would happen to Amazon's stock if they announced a profitable quarter for the 1st time ever and because of a stupid, simple idea like being a middleman for P2P and B2P used items??? I like Amazon and I hope they hammer away at eBay's dominance.
Interesting! How does that PayPal partnership work??? Is there a listing fee for items, and is there a single aggregate payment when an item sells??? Do you have any details? Any idea about how it's been promoted and sell-through??? Thanks.
