I set mine up last week by going to another seller's store and clicking on the "seller manage store" link.

That takes you to a sign-in page. Signing in took me to a page to set up a store.

I'm glad I did. I've already sold five items and I only have a few listed so far.

Surf the auctions, open a few auction pages, you will find one.

You are required to accept billpoint to use the store...I'll try it out for the 30 days to see how I like it.

Damn, that's more than 8%+ down the drain paid to eBay on every single sale! How do they get away with that???

BillPoints more dangerous to use for sellers than PayPal due to the threat of chargebacks and no seller recourse, to say nothing about your meager profits disappearing!

Is there any way to prevent chargebacks with BillPoint???

I've heard sellers state that a person has signed for a package before and still was able to get billpoint to authorize a chargeback....

Imagine an unscrupulous bidder buying up everything in your inventory using BillPoint and then doing chargebacks on the entire lot! You'd have no recourse as things are today!!! You could theoretically be wiped out and it'd be perfectly legal according to eBay!! What would you do???

Same thing could happen if you accepted credit cards through a merchant account. Chargebacks are a fact of life if you are going to accept credit cards.

amy,

How do you get the bold font to appear??? Thanks.

Doesn't proof of delivery count for anything??? Sure, they could order a vase and you could deliver a block of wood, but what other way of validating delivery is there??? Using a third party intermediary for every transaction would drive buyers and sellers up the wall!!!

Most have paid through Billpoint. I just had another sale --- this one paid via PayPal.

Billpoint is not currently required. Only that you take Visa/Mastercard. Anyone with a merchant account can set up a shop and process the credit card transactions manuallly. My feeling is that when ebay fine tunes the stores, Merchants will be required to enter their credit card processor information, so that the shopping cart function will work properly.

I have my store partially set up and I don't have a merchant account and I don't accept Billpoint. Not sure where the info is coming from that says you have to have a merchant account.

This store thing is a mess though, I'm adding items that are not showing up, and only some of my auctions are showing up. The entire thing is very confusing. They have quite a bit of tweaking to do. Not to mention that it doesn't look much like a store, it's unattractive and not user friendly yet. Confusing to the seller and the buyer. I think it could increase my sales though, eventually.

Eseller...use the [ key, then b, then ] at the beginning...at the end of what you want bolded use [ then /b then ].

It is the customer's credit card company who decides if a chargeback will be granted, not paypal or billpoint.

The chargeback is done to the merchant account. With paypal the merchant account is paypal, so the money is taken from paypal. Paypal then says to the seller (us)..."you owe paypal the money from this chargeback". If the seller has a verified account AND has jumped through all the hoops at all the right points in time, paypal won't take the chargeback out of the seller's account ...but ONLY if it was for non-delivery.

But let a customer do a charge back because the item was not as described and paypal will wipe the money out of your account as fast as you can say "boo".

I'm not sure if billpoint is the merchant account or if the seller actually is holding a merchant account through Wells Fargo (my suspicion is we each have a merchant account).

The charge back is granted or denied by the credit card company...all billpoint or paypal can do is present your (the seller's) case to the credit card company for consideration. The credit card company decides based on the customer's case and the merchant's case, and the credit card company's decision is final...the merchant must go along with it.

Plus...the customer does not have to get permission from billpoint or paypal to file for a chargeback.

"doesn't delivery confirmation count for anything?"

Its up to the credit card company...and I think (MO) that the credit card companies are very very tilted towards agreeing with the card holder and against the merchant.

How about offering a small discount for folks who pay by check/money order etc. That is legal to do. Just an idea.

i think billpoint and one click all work like paypal, serving as our merchant account.
paymentech which serves yahoo shops grant merchant account to those shops with commecial checking accounts, later relaxed the rule to say they prefer commericial account, but personal bank account is okay .
as for multiple pictures with ebay store items, first is free, after that 15 cents, same rule as auction.

amy,

thanks for the help and the explanation! They're out to get us sellers, I can feel it!

hwahwahwahwa,

If you want to use multiple pics, do you have to use eBay's picture hosting, or can you link offsite to multiple pics as we can do with auctions?
