OK, this was a big surprise to me, and I'm not sure how I should proceed, if at all.

I am fairly new to ebay--less than a year, but over 100 feedbacks--all positive except for one. If you read my feedback, you will note that most mention fast payment--I usually pay the same day by PayPal, or purchase and mail a money order within 48 hours. So the negative feedback was a real shocker--especially given that I'd paid for the item the same day I won the auction (via PayPal) and had received it almost a month before the feedback was posted!

I'm assuming that the seller just kept bad records when she posted that I hadn't paid. However, I was obviously upset that she posted FALSE negative feedback, without ever contacting me (this obviously could have been cleared up quite quickly). When I saw the feedback, I immediately responded asking her to clarify, since I had paid and she had shipped. I also sent her a copy of the PayPal notification. While waiting for her reply, I contacted Ebay and was told that the feedback, even if demonstrably false, could not be retracted unless either 1)I sued the seller for libel and won, 2) we went through the arbitration process ($15), or 3) the seller had posted this to the wrong buyer and could prove she had reposted it to the correct buyer.

When the seller ultimately responded acknowledging her mistake, I told her what Ebay had told me. She responded by telling me to quit threatening her, that she was quitting Ebay, and I should never contact her again.

This was a $5 doll dress--and I'm not even sure I can go through arbitration without the seller's cooperation. Any suggestions? How much will this one negative feedback hurt me? I posted a reply that I had indeed paid and could prove it, and she reposted that I had threatened her!

My ebay name is [email protected]

If you are a buyer with a rating over 100 and only one negative, I would venture to guess it will not affect you at all.

Just add a suitable response to the Neg and then move on and forget about it.

'Not sure what this neg is for-I paid for item, received it and Positive FBed seller'

It's like Fox Hunting, you're not really an EBAYER til you've been bloodied
Your neg is already moving to the bottom of the page, most people don't even read them, just look at the big number

P.S. Check your seller's feedback if you want to feel better.

if it's any comfort to you, if you bid on one of my items and i read your feedback, especially if you'd made a reply such as zazzie suggested, i wouldn't think a thing of it. if the neg was buried, and you've only got one, i wouldn't even bother checking out the neg. most people understand that anyone can run up against a kook and get a neg as a result.

sorry this happened to you, but ultimately, not to worry

I guess I just don't understand some people. If I gave someone a negative fb by mistake, I'd feel terrible about it. I'd do whatever it took to correct my sloppy mistake.

Maybe you could TELL the seller that they've libeled you and you intend to pursue it unless they make it right.

Or, as I've read here somewhere, respond to their feedback with some identifying information (like their email address or real name), email ebay about it from a different email address and they will remove it because of the identifying information.

(Don't bawl me out, it was someone else's idea)

You could pursue it and make yourself nuts over it......or you could have a beer with a bowl of nuts on the side.

The second one sounds the more sane....stop sweating the small stuff.

My first 100 feedback I sweated lots and worried what if I got one of those negatives. The next 300 I still worried but thought it would get buried. I went past 500 on amazon and then they kicked me off as I didn't have a U.S account in the U.S.
After that I didn't worry anymore ! Started 2 ids on ebay and figured what the heck! I probably deserve a negative here and there! ( haven't got one yet ! but won't even turn a hair when I get one too. Only a matter of time besides which I do make lots of errors!)
But of course your negative is very unfair but as a seller ~ I never consider 1 negative with the rest as positive as anything ! and as a seller , I would have felt so bad ( course I would have emailed you first! )
