also a big thanks for the ebay url, i'll save it for future use as they make a detective game out of trying to find out how to contact them, i'll also send a duplicate to that url.

Let's see. Did those auctions have direct links? Billpoint or paypal surcharges? More than one link for your e-mail, or about me page? Keyword spamming, by stating something like: See my other auctions for a widget, thingamagig and whachamicalits?
Hmmmm. Someone reported you, since Ebay does not self monitor. It will be interesting to find out, anyway.

We are very sorry but hamilton beach, myers, lee petty and nascar are registered trademarks. Please contact our VERO members for more information.
Sincerely, ebay

Well, you are certainly ALLOWED to use the brand names, if in fact it is the brand name that you are selling, even second hand.
If that is what happened, VERO is WAY out of control. No surprise there, though.

Isn't that so incredibily stupid. Sounds like Ebay should shut down completely if we're no longer allowed to say the brand names!
posted on June 20, 2001 03:36:47 AM
there were no direct links to anything, i do not use pp or bp,not more than one link for email, i do not have a "about me" page and no keyword spamming.
i just got a generic auto response email and it said they try to explain it the best they can in the "auction ended" email,,,,,,,i never got one!
i just sent them a email, that implied that i am REALLY mad and want a SPECIFIC answer,i'll keep you posted AND thanks for the input!

was that the auction(s) that had about 50 names listed in there? Like Jadeite, etc etc.? Then you apologized for getting the key words in? Would that be considered spamming or too much? They sure kept coming up on my searches! Now if Ebay would just close down those "I'm leaving EBAY" instead of legitimite auctions.........why don't those people go ahead and LEAVE! Why does anybody bid on those??

Looks like glassgrl is your snitch or at least the EBAY SECRET POLICE. It's a shame that ebay would end an auction based on a complaint from some loser who needs to get a life.

I must be lost. So you mean to tell me that if I have a Hamilton Beach thingamajiggy, I can't say it is a Hamilton Beach, just thingamajiggy? And I can't say "see my other auctions" for other thingamajiggys that may be realted to the first? There already is a "see sellers other auctions" there, so what's wrong with me saying the same thing? OR did I misunderstand something in the thread? Have I really been that much in the dark for the past year? I guess I better go re-read the EBAY rules

so sorry danOrama. didn't mean to push any buttons there. you must have a few of those cd's yourself hmmmmmmm? I was actually looking for shower curtains and I got those myers mixers in my search, had to look and they were nice and it made me think about selling my hamilton beach one. I personally thought it was clever to put all those words in, wish I'd thought of it myself. Then again, guess ebay didn't like it.
posted on June 20, 2001 11:25:12 AM
yumacootm if you are selling a Hamilton Mixer, you can say it is a Hamilton Mixer.
You can't say, in your description, to see your other auctions for Baseball Cards, Children's clothes, and a silver spoon.
That is considered keyword spamming and it is not allowed, because it clogs up the search.
If someone is looking for a silver spoon, and they do a search, including descriptions, they don't want your Hamilton Mixer to come up because you put all those extra words in it.

LOL danorama! take it easy on her, there are folks out there that have, no life, no friends, bored, etc. that have nothing but lots of time on their hands, some were drop outs from the police academy and do entry level work for security firms part time and police ebay the rest of the time.
glassgrl:
as far as 50 words,,,,,,i count about 32. (you are wrong)
if you are ignorant that green porcelain is CALLED jadite,,,,,,,,get educated about collectibles. (you are wrong)
YES i did apologized, some accepted that apology and some did not. (you are correct)
i have got to know!!!
what word (or words) did you use that these 4 items showed up in a search for "shower curtains",,,,,,,especially the battery additive ???????
also glassgrl, what do you think ebay should do to buyers when they are selling sunglasses that say "neon orange" in the description and all the collectors of neon signs or clocks find the sunglasses when they do a serach for neon ????? Hmmmmmm? sound familiar?
in closing,,,, with one search i could turn in about 3,000 auctions that have jadite in the description,,,,why? because the ONLY definition in "random house websters college dictionary" for "jadite" says that it is a mineral, and none of those 3,000 or so auctions are for "the most precious type of jade; a colorless, green or black pyroxene, sodium aluminum sillicate, NaAlSi2O6 (1860 - 1865),,,, luckily for the sellers that all those people out there looking for the mineral "jadite", have better things to do with their time or all of these descriptions with "jadite" could be considered "keyword spamming".
OOPS! almost forgot, the worst thing about all this is that i NEVER got an email from ebay saying they cancelled the auctions and NEVER got a email from them specifically telling me why they were cancelled after i requested an answer.

I can almost guarantee that they were ended because of this part:
MULTI MIXER, MYERS BULLET,HAMILTON BEACH, SILENT MIXER, OSTER, MIX N WHIP, PIC CHAMPION, BENEDICT, MACHINE CRAFT, HELMCO
LACY, INDESTRUCTO, CARNATION, BORDENS, BORDEN'S, THOMPSON'S, THOMPSONS, HORLICK'S, HORLICKS, ARNOLD, MIXER, BLENDER, SODA FOUNTAIN, WALGREENS, DRUG STORE, SODA
SHOP, CECILWARE, DINER, PORCELAIN, ICE CREAM SHOP, JADITE, JUICER, MACHINE, MALTED in auction # 1. Same for the other auctions. The other "keywords" are not allowed.
This is considered Keyword Spamming by Ebay.
If you are not selling a Hamilton Beach, or an Oster, a soda shop, Juicer, A drug store, etc., you cannot mention them in your auction.
By your statement ",SORRY BIDDERS I HAD
TO GET THESE KEY WORDS IN THERE", you knew that you were doing it to bring it up in the searches.
That is why Ebay ended the auction.
As I said before, Ebay does not police, and someone had to report it.
In the future, keep out the extra "keywords" and you'll be fine.

thanks for the tip & input kidsfeet, i have been contacted about 2 of the items by people that had emailed me questions prior to the auctions ending and if they don't buy them outright,i'll try it again in a few weeks.
i myself wish that people would do this more AS LONG as it is related to the items (also they get more money when bidders can find the items,,,,,,a novel idea!).
i collect glass reflector street signs, and i have about 16 searches for these and it would save me a mess of time if sellers did this. as it is now i have to search for: street sign, street signs, route, highyway, high way, route marker, curve, hwy, road, speed limit,etc.,etc.
these blenders are also called mixers, machines, malted milk mixers, milk shake mixers, milkshake mixers, soda fountain blender, multi mixers, drug store mixer, soda shop mixer, etc.,etc.
the person who turned me in is on this thread
(glassgrl) she herself is guilty of this, but i guess she is above the law!
thanks again for all the input guys & gals!
ps: i was not selling a drug store,,,,,,,or Rockford, Illinois either.

you can ALL kiss my a++. that was danOrama's idea that I turned you in and you jumped on the bandwagon. I just happened to recognize your ad and put the two together (it wasn't hard even for a blonde like me) and as you said...........>>ANY IDEAS?<< >>ebay has yet to respond<< as nobody had seen the ads I had a good idea what the problem was. sorry for shopping, at least I took the time to read your ad AND complemented you on it. I was curious myself as to what made it show up in my search.
Geez, talk about getting a LIFE. You should get down and kiss the floor I walk on because I shop as much as I sell and if not for people like me that buy, you wouldn't be here writing about "duh what'd i do??" At least I don't have to have some fakey name here so that I have to hide what I do.
YOU BOTH MUST SELL THOSE STUPID "I'M LEAVING EBAY" CD'S.
Guess this is my initiation huh?
Like I said, Kiss it.
I got better things to do than write ebay.

easy glassgrl, did you forget that YOU ADMITTED that you found them when searching for ,,,,,shower curtains. NOBODY, I REPEAT NOBODY could have seen these except myself and ebay after they were ended (until i pasted them here, if you search the items numbers themselves they would come up "invalid item",,,,,
PRIOR to me pasting them here you posted:

if you knew that "jadite" was in the description, you HAD to see them before they were ended,,,,,,,don't blame danorama!
ps. you forgot to answer my question.
have a nice day AND calm down!

not until you apologize for 1)thinking/feeling/saying I snitched on you. snitched on you here in AW, yes. To Ebay, no. And for saying 2)I don't have a life. I knew it was your auction only because you said "soda collectibles and $81.00". Call me psychic, but I'd seen it earlier that day.
And I'll apologize for saying you must sell I'm leaving Ebay CDs.

moderator. I am uncomfortable having everyone on the ebay board thinking I'm some kind of ebay snitch or secret police. true, i was over the line in my earlier post and I humbly apologize for that. I knew what the auction was and why it was stopped. I did not/do not appreciate being called a snitch repeatedly. once FEDUP posted what he'd had said in his auction, everyone could see what the problem was. He has a legitimate question, I do know what brought his search up. pull my post if you must, but I think a public apology is in order. thank YOU for your time and interest. you are correct, name-calling, mud-slinging is not necessary on this board or anywhere else. I DO apologize for having the earlier post and having a knee-jerk reaction to being called names.
I'd just put him on ignore. I understand not wanting to be called names and have lies about me spread all over the place, because I've been through a lot over the past couple years over that. When you respond like that, it just lowers you to a level...
Even if you were a snitch, I would've reported an auction like that too had I seen it. I am very annoyed when someone puts a bunch of words like that when it has nothing to do with the auction and I have to scroll through a bunch of junk to get to what I'm looking for.
posted on June 22, 2001 08:15:22 AM
I am not the one who turned in the auctions on this thread, but I have turned in quite a number for crap like this seller admitted doing. Obviously, these items could not have been made by ALL of the manufacturers listed in the item description. There are several items I collect, and when I look for them, I hate having to sift through 2000 listings that mention those items to find 10 listings that actually ARE those items. In most cases, I won't buy anything from the people who use all the keywords in their listings, because on the few occasions that I have, I have invariably been disappointed. Obviously, if the item had any merit of its own, you would not have to litter the searches with this piece of junk. If I am looking for related items, I will put in more general keywords, so that I can find what I am looking for. I am smart enough to read auction listings, and if I believe the description is honest, and not full of bogus descriptions, the quality is worthwhile, and the price is right, I will buy it, even if it doesn't have a popular brand name on it.
