Well, it finally happened. I mail approx 800 packages a year. Back in April, a package i *received* had a broken item in it. I waited 3 weeks for the PO receipt to arrive and brought all items to my local post office around May 5.
The gentleman took all the papers and package and told me the woman who handled claims was not in and that my receipt would be mailed to me.
Despite several phone calls to this woman, I never received the received.
On my weekly run to the post office on Saturday (last weekend), I asked to speak to "ms. Jones". She finally came to the window and when I told her I was the man who called her three times about his insurance receipt, she told me she never heard of me and she had no idea who i was!
Needless to say, I was furious. Her supervisor came to the window. still angry, the supervisor calmed me down, took my name and phone number and promised toget to the bottom of the issue.
She called me later that day to say that the box and all papers were there, and that they were processed on May 5 & My receipt could be picked up the next time i'm in the post office. She also promised to call me back on tuesday with an update.
Tuesday came, no phone call. I called her today. she did not have an update for me. She further stated that the package did not seem to be damaged and therefore she did not feel that the PO damaged my figurine (a hand was broken off a disney figurine). She further stated that if/when the claims department questioned her about it, this is what she would tell them and therefore I would not be available for an insurance refund.

She sounds like a jerk. I have a really good post office when it comes to just mailing things, but if something is lost or damaged......too bad. Try talking to her supervisor again. I recieved a MO that had been ripped to shreds by one of their little machines. It was in one of those bags that say "Sorry, we ripped this, it occasionally happens.......". The only help I got was that "maybe you should call the bank that it was issued on". I hate going to the PO when I have a problem, they never do anything. Plus the parking is five minutes and if you dare stay longer than five minutes they will ticket you. Pretty ironic considering there is always a line and only two clerks working out of a possible four.

Was the hand in the package anywhere? If not, I doubt you can prove they damaged it. It may have broken off as it was being prepared for packing or prior. Usually if the damaged piece is in the box somewhere they honor the claim.

yes, all the pieces are there. She was stating that it looked as if it was well wrapped with plenty of insulation; the box was not damaged so she doesn't see how the figurine could have been damaged in transit since the box was not damaged and the item was packed well.
My opinion: if the box is dropped (and we all know that this CAN happen), the item can break!
