Ditto!

However, I'm sure they couldn't care less cuz I'm not a paying customer and if they don't care about their paying customers, then I'm certain they care even less about the rest of us!

Same here. I was writing a post about this a few minutes ago when the dog stepped on the surge protecter and turned of the computer. Huge Ad. Yuck!!

Picture it...

you are a buyer...

you're wanting that cd...

Suddenly as you find the cd on ebay, a big advertisement pops up in your face, telling you that you can buy this cd somewhere for less than the one you already found, link right there.....

Hi KittyKitty. I got the same pop up a while ago, but I was here on AW. Hadn't been to eBay. I thought I had accidently clicked something, but now guess not if others got it. Really weird! Kind of scarey too!

I got the pop up ad, and had the window minimized while it was loading (slowly), when I maximized it, I thought at first it was an ebay page. Did anyone else find a different font when they opened the ebay outlook page? Not only that, while I was trying to type this message the first time, the page switched over to the "this page cannot be found, please try later" message. Has ebay taken over today?

edited to say:
Nevermind! When I refreshed the page it was back to normal, musta been a problem on my end.

I hadn't been to ebay yet either, I was here on AW.

Guess AW is doing advertisement for ebay now??

Yup, AW is the culprit here! But I also see how it could adversely affect your cd sales if you have an AW storefront or whatever they are calling it now. The customer comes onto AW to see your stuff and I bet he/she will also get that obnoxious pop-up....

I think they are called pop-under ads, as they lurk behind your browser, just waiting to pounce on ya!

Read an article last night on Yahoo about these -- this is what catapulted X-10 (or whatever that hokey electronics retailer) to the #1 position it web-hits lately!

Advertisers are stingy & web-site owners are getting more & more desperate!

Ok. This is getting weirded. I just clicked on "Go" at the bottom, next to the drop down box and immdiately got an "illegal operation" notice and MSIE window shut down. Not to unusual.

However, when I got the original pop up window and thought I had accidently clicked something, I had clicked on the ad on the left hand side to check and see if that is what I had accidently clicked. This click then opened a new window with the information about the ad (which didn't relate to the half.com ad). I then went to an entirely different site in that window.

Now this is the strange part. When I got the "illegal operation" message in my AW window, I also got one in the window that the ad had originally opened. It might just have been my computer, but I also have 2 other MSIE windows open and they weren't affected. Spooky!

I'll never know exactly what a pop up ad says because I never read them. While I will click on banner ads occasionally, I'll never support, read or purchase from a disruptive pop up. Blech.

Just to clarify. The ad that I clicked on is the one on the left hand side of the AW page, that currently says "Triple your money". I didn't click on the pop up.

Also, I am not going to try and triple my money!

Get AdSubtract- it is a free download- it stops the pop-ups and prevents cookies from sites you don't want cookies from.

thanks, stamper

i dislike pop-ups too - too disruptive and in-your-face. tend to avoid sites that use them, if i know, and i never click on them!

a pop-under is preferable to a pop-over. ... unless it's the edible kind.

now i'm hungry!

If you conduct business on eBay you are already supporting them because half.com is owned by eBay.
