I had a last minute bidder win an auction that closed on 6/19. His e-mail address is inactive (hotmail), I've tried sending EOA through my regular account and again through Yahoo...same results. This buyer has 3 negs for non-response to e-mails/non-pay. I pulled his contact info, but really don't feel I should have to make a long distance call for a $6.00 sale. Advise anyone?

Thanks, Rob

Go to your auction, and "send this auction to a friend" with a message. If it bounces, notify ebay, put him on your blocked bidders list, and file for NPB / FVF.

I hear you!
My rinky dinky "junk" id has had a deadbeat who's dotcom flopped a month ago and the work address is gone!
According to the CSR at the dotcom that bought them, everyone was let go.
I posed as a vender.
Nothing like a toll free number and some chutzpah to help cut the losses.

capotasto...do they notify you if the "send to a friend bounces? I have never gotten anything back, the only email addy on this one gal is definitely toast.
just curious.

Sometimes buyers change their email address without changing their registered email address with ebay. Not for any negative reason, just because they don't think about it.

I've had it happen a few times, esp I think due to the fact that I sell a lot to older folks (vintage technology) and they're not always that internt savvy. Of course it can happen to anyone. I myself didn't think to change my phone number on ebay when I moved but fortunately noticed it myself.

Usually a few days goes by and I get a message asking why they have not heard from me. When I point out their email address changed they usually say 'whoops' sorry and end up as good customers.

Could be they're just waiting to hear from you with no idea why you have not contacted them.

Of course in your situation you need to look at the entire picture (neg feedback as you've said).

okey dokey, back for more advice...the e-mail a friend didn't seem to work, so now what? I feel like a complete dork, but this is my first actual problem with a buyer so I haven't a clue about steps I need to take and ebay FAQ etc, really is useless isn't it. Can I just cancel his bid and offer it to the next highest bidder? or do I have to wait 3 days, file the NPB, wait 10 more days and relist?

I appreciate the responses and help-thanks

I've had that happen. I shot an email to safeharbor asking them to verify the email address of this person and gave them all the avenues I'd tried. I got a quick response that the email address was invalid and they suspended the user. Next day the user emailed me and we completed the sale.

safeharbor has told me that they will 86 my flake if they can't find anything for me.
I mean, no matter what your I'net savvy is, you should treat your bidder email like it's important enough to pay attention to.
I guess I am a bit retentive on that but, but golly!
I never go to the ebay boards but and scrolling through now and see some wildly stupid questions. So maybe there are more flakes out there than I though.
Denial. It's gonna get me!

If his email is invalid, and he already has negs for non-contact I would immediately report him to safe harbor for invalid contact info and sell to the 2nd place bidder.
You don't have to actually wait 10 days to relist either, you only have to wait to file NPB and FVF.
