One of my friends got this in his e-mail today:
I'm gonna send cash for your auction. Please do me an extra favor; please register the notes of my payment at http://www.wheresgeorge.com/ and note your locale and stuff. Thanks!!
I know this site well (In fact, I have 1,000+ notes stamped by me for this site, with hits as far away as Japan and Ireland), but it was kinda hard explaining to my friend about this site.
Is this an odd request or what??

Here's my thought on ebay: when you are a seller, all you are obligated to do is the ebay transaction and what is needed for it (i.e. e-mails, good packing job, if it is a gift -- enclose a card they send if applicaple, etc.)
To ask to register at a website and say you recieved money so that anyone can access it is uncalled for. If you want to do this, its fine, but I would never do it because a buyer asked me to. It is not stated in my auctions that I register cash at wheresgeorge.com
And it's not "registering" money, it's a "study" of where money has been.
I mean, take that $20 in your purse. Who knows, it could've been to Mexico, in a part of a Drug Dealers "payment," or it could've been in some Strippers G-String...
Of course, i'm off subject here...

nope, not an odd request at all in my book. it is a fun thing that tracks where US dollar bills have been.
i had a US buyer send me several US 1.00 bills as part of her payment. she had the bills stamped with the 'where's george' website. i registered each of them .. or rather, as they were already registered, just added my part about where they were now. some of the comments about the various bills are a real hoot! i even made a point to split up the bills, sending one to different customers over the next few weeks when i needed to send change, or made an ebay purchase myself. so far though, sigh, no one after me has entered their info on where the bills are.

I have to agree it looks like a fun site and favorite placed it. I will have to try it out. I wouldn't feel obligated to fulfill the request, but it might be fun and somehow I think we all need to start having a little more fun around here!

I would do it but that doggone site is so addictive I have to stay clear of it! I found myself entering all my $1 bills - and wasting way too much time there!
Really, it is a neat site and if a customer asked me to do it I would.

There is a limit how much time I would use for any request. Time is money and I don't make all that much off my sales to do freebies for someone elses amusement.

I've received one of their marked bills before and checked out the site, and it looks like fun. But I would hesitate about asking anyone to do this since it requires them to register with the site. I am careful regarding giving out information and would not appreciate someone sending me to a site that insists on your regisitering to participate.
JMHO.

BlondeSense:
FYI, you DON'T have to register with the site to enter bills, only to go back and check on bills you've entered.
Also, the only information needed to register are your FIRST name and your e-mail address, no other identifying info such as last name, phone number, etc. You do have to put in your zip when you register bills (that's how they know where the bill is)
