This just hasn't been my best week on eBay!

After many attempts, I was finally able to win an auction for a certain tape with a BIN bid. I was checking this category almost hourly watching for this tape and when it showed up, I jumped on it.

Finally got one after trying at least 20 times and getting sniped every time ... at least I thought so.

The seller sent me an email last night stating that she errored on the BIN price and was not intending to supply the tape to me. She has, in fact, relisted it and the current high bid is about 3 times what I "bought" it for. She offered to give me free shipping if I bid on it (again) and won it (again).

This seller has a feedback of 900+ with no neutrals or negs.

Should I post a neg to warn other bidders about this less-than-honourable practice?

Thanks ...

As a seller of 900+ feedback she should know better. Then to be breaking deals.

We make mistakes...we as sellers should eat our losses and move on.

I certainly don't think I would let her off the hook so easily. A deal is a deal!

Agreed - This is the kind of thing that drives people away. The stupid part is she could have ended the auction early and canceled your bid all within eBay's rules but obviously does not take the time to double check and LOOK at her auctions after listing to catch mistakes.

I would contact her first and let her know that if she refused to consumate the deal you will be negging her and reporting to safe harbor ,with her 900 perfect feedback rating she may decide to do the right thing.if presented with the consequences.

Hey moderator...what's up with truthseeker fighting with everyone on every thread?
Kind of boring!

You could neg, but they will neg back and I would be willing to bet that they say "non paying bidder." The gall, eh?
Safeharbor and timesensitive first off. CC the seller.
Best of luck.

Wow, the nerve! I say report her to Safe Harbor (though it's doubtful they will do anything about it) and NEG her! But, chances are she will neg back - so be prepared and just state the facts.

I would tell the seller that you plan on forwarding all of the info to ebay and that you will do what is proper when a seller refuses to sell an item.
Give them the chance to make it right and sell you what you won for what you bid.

With 900 all positives we'll see if the seller wants to risk a few $$ profit for a first negative. (and probabaly a warning from ebay)

Seller made the mistake, seller has to be accountable.

Of course, you could always become an ebay cop and police the sellers listings for awhile............

Thanks all

Here's an update ...

The seller finally contacted me and told me she was able to find another copy of the tape and would sell it to me for $10.00 more than I won the "other one" for and that she would be taking a loss on the deal (based on what she said she paid for the 2nd copy).

I think she's on the up-and-up and did make an honest error in the original listing. Apparently eBay was experiencing some technical problems and she wasn't able to cancel her listing after she noticed the error.

Based on eBay's history and the time that this occurred (others reported eBay problems here at AW around the same time), and the fact that I really want this tape, I have decided to forego the neg and take her up on her offer. I'm still getting the tape for about $25.00 less than the going rate. Now I just gotta hope she doesn't tell me it will cost $25.00 to mail it to Canada!

Thanks again ...

I could see that happening, esp since you say you bought it almost as soon as it was listed. I've made mistakes in listing, too. I think you are generous in your attitude and she is lucky to deal with you.

I would also go so far as to say she owes you free shipping to Canada. I think that is what I'd do, or other sellers here. It would probably just be $7 for the Global Priority Envelope.

NO WAY, I find that TOTALLY unacceptable.

Look, we have all expienced eBays hiccups and funtionallity problems and LOST money in the process.

It is NOT your problem.

As a seller of 900+ feedback, I really find her solution unacceptable.

If you go with her new deal, then PLEASE explain in her feedback the correct circumstances.

She must not be allowed to make a habit of it, and who knows she may have done this to others.

If one person speaks out then others will follow when it happens to them.
I know its a bummer being the first, but somebody has to do it.

Hi packer ...

I understand, but apart from this seller, there are only 2 or 3 others who sell these tapes to "foreigners" (ie non-Americans). As a collector I would hate to kill 1/3 of my potential sources

kez - I will try the free postage thing but won't hold my breath ...

Hi RB! I miss seeing you at the RT . I just think this person should honour your bid, no matter how much money SHE is out. I agree with mrspock 100%. Even if eBay was down, she should still have contacted each bidder by email & told them BEFORE the auction ended, of her dilema.
