I've had very few positive thoughts for ebay in the last year although I do continue to list there exclusively, since there are no viable options. For the 2nd time in about a year, I had an auction "ended" by ebay for an alleged infraction of their "bootleg, pirated item, promotional item etc etc" category.
I have no idea who or how they were alerted to my auction but that's neither here nor there. What I was a bit surprised to find out was that despite the "rants" you read about all day long here.......there are some people in ebay that can actually think and resolve problems in a non-robotic manner. In both of the instances the problem was resolved in my favor after I challenged their reasoning for ending the auctions. They were resolved in less than 2 days, which included the time I took to "prepare my brief defense/explanation". Now, one can argue that the auctions shouldn't have been ended in the first place........and I would certainly agree, but frankly it's almost encouraging to note that if they do pull an auction, that you can mount an appeal that may be read by a "reasonable" person who can make a reasonable decision in a reasonable amount of time. For this, I think that ebay should get some positive acknowledgement. BTW, I'm no big seller, so it's not like I kick them more than $100-150 a month in fees. This is just FYI, and calling it as I see it.

this is nice to read.

it was also refreshing to read the thread about the results from the 'protest' auctions. i may not agree with the compromise, but that one person stood up, others were willing to make their voices heard, and that ebay listened and made changes as a result - that's all very heartening. as is this.

Thanks Kitty. I'm not too surprised that no one else has reacted in any way too this. The level of extreme negativity here is truly impressive.

That is actually something I really would like to see eBay implement: some sort of warning that your listing will be pulled if you don't respond to their warning. Something like a 24 hour notice or so. That way, you don't lose the listing or the bidders if the conflict is resolved.

Of course, you know some sellers would just let eBay end the auction, and email the bidders prior to it ending to sell off site. AND they would get their fees back...

The whole "auctions being pulled etc." issue goes way beyond ebay or even VERO. Let's face it, to a large extent 1984 has occurred and people are extremely willing to accept anything that's handed down. It has also become almost "fashionable" to be a narc. Look at what happenned out here in Calif. Some 18 yr old clerk (De Anza college last year), sticks her nose into a pile of photos, sees something suspicious and calls the cops. The next thing you know, she's touring the country and appearing on Oprah.......for catching this guy with no record who "appeared" to be planning a bombing of a junior college Or a couple of computer techs find something on your harddrive that "they" find offensive.......while they're supposed to be fixing your computer.(This guy was a lawyer of all things, and they found some photos of "boys" that "appeared" to be under 18. The next thing you know, the cops search every inch of his house. Innocent until proven guilty??? yeah right. A lot of people have also lost the ability to distinguish between TOS and the law. It's almost comical but it seems that you have this percentage who are so afraid of violating TOS...... as if they were going to be thrown in jail if they did. I get 2 or 3 emails every week that support that general feeling. It's really pathetic.

Chupa, the details of your item, ebay's reason, and your defense would be interesting and perhaps instructive to read for us other ebay users.
