I have been Reading about this for a few months now one of the Reasons they want to investigate this is that as it Turns out many been turning in auction fraud reports to the FBI website and many of the reports of auction Fraud they have looked in to 60% turns out to be False reports or people who Jumped the gun and actually end up with there items.
Now the Goverment want to investigate it and see just how much Real Fraud is going on and How much is just consumer fears and doubt and internet retaliation.
Another words whats real , What not and see if there is a way to protect both sides.

I've had my share of negative experiences both as a buyer and seller, but I'd much rather have the system as is now (with attempts to make feedback more reliable and other safeguards like that) than the kinds of privacy attacks that are being proffered in the name of making auctions safer.

Thanks so much for the information. I was able to put together a short letter and faxed it to a few of the Representatives on the committee. I have some amazing stories about fraud on auction sites that hopefully I can share one day when I have more time.

ploughman --- I tend to agree with you. I'd much prefer to take my chances with the fraud and rippoffs than have any more involvment from Government in the online world.
Federal Government tends to break the legs of those they proport to help - then cheerfully provides them with a crutch and proudly proclaims - "See! If it weren't for us, you wouldn't be walking"
