We have a daily pickup account with UPS and ship about 15 Ground packages a week. We have just landed a new account, and within the next month, we could be shipping between 500 and 750 Ground packages a week. I am wondering what kind of discount/multiplier/price break any of you have with UPS. If you have one, did you negotiate it or did they offer it to you?
Also, I have heard that they sometimes offer flat rates on all packages you ship (like $5 for all packages under 10 lbs). Anyone get that?

I know they have different "tiers" based upon volume and some other factors that I'm not familiar with I'm sure. I work part time at a place that made tier 4 so I get an excellent rate on everything I send out by UPS.
They (UPS) have the info available to merchant accountholders. You just need to make sure they know when your business has reached each tier so that they give you the break you are entitled to. They are pretty good about it.

I have some kind of account w/UPS mostly so that I can get billed rather than paying when they pick up.
If I drop off a package or hand it to a UPS delivery person, my rate is $3 less per package than what would be quoted if you went to the rate calculator online. I print my labels from their site.
Since I live 25 miles from the nearest drop off, I really only get the discount if I'm shipping more than one package via UPS that week. i.e. I get charged the regular price for the first box because that's a pick-up, but I get the $3 off the second package because I handed it to the driver instead of scheduling it.
As you can see, I'm nowhere near your level of shipping, but keep digging and keep talking to their sales reps, because with that many packages per week, they're going to want to keep you and not lose you to FedEx.
