OK
Paypal has finally alienated me as a small-time ebay seller. I don't get the $1000/month in transactions via paypal and thus have to pay the increased rate.
I like my life simple. I don't want to have 5 different payment schemes available to buyers. I want one only besides the standard check or money order in the mail. Most of my auctions are in the $10 to $50 range.
If I am going to pick only one payment service, which one would be the best?
Or is it best to go back to the old way of check and MO only?
Comments?
PS: What a racket these bankers have. Unbelievable!!

Yahoo PayDirect which is FREEEEEEEEE for both buyers and sellers. It's easy to set up. I think all you need is a Yahoo account (can set one up in 2 minutes!) and credit card info to pay, and CC and bank account info to sell. People don't use it much so you might have to convince people to take the 5 minutes necessary to hook it up!
Citibank's C2it is free for sellers but costs buyers, so buyers won't use it. Plus you have to give C2it your SSN#!

Payment services are not about you, it is about customer convenience. The more you are able to make bidding and buying easier for the customer, the more bids you will receive.
I would never go back to simple checks and money orders because I would lose a percentage of my business. Simple as that.

I don't like putting negative statements in my auctions stating I won't take this payment, but why not list the payment options you accept and your order of preference???
Say
Payment Preference Order:
1) Yahoo PayDirect
2) Postal Money Order
3) Other Money Orders
4) Checks
...
761)BillPoint
899)PayPal

I've been surprised at how many people prefer to send checks/money orders. If I had a $1,000 a month in sales, it would never come close to $1,000 in PayPal payments. This is just un-American. The smallest merchant gets sc***wed the most. Land of Opportunity only applies to the big guys, I guess. Wonder what kind of bonus their CFO will get for coming up with this idea!!!

i never understand why buyers are still trooping to paypal to make payments,i guess we are all creatures of habits.
i would not alienate any buyer who wants to use paypal or billpoint or any service.
i will just include such cost in my pricing.
which in plain english, means i am making LESS!!!!!!!!!!!

if you include such costs in your pricing you are making the same.

Fully half of my buyers pay by paypal. Sales is about service, so I won't drop PP.
Here are the payment options that I offer:
1. Cash (I recommend they use registered mail, this is a popular option for those overseas)
2. check
3. Money order
4. paypal
5. bidpay (also popular for overseas buyers)
In no particular order of preference. I take money no matter how it comes.

Oh yah, when they want to pay by billpoint, I'll take that, too. I just don't mention it in my auctions.
