Just a quickie...I've spent the entire day going through literally thousands of comic books I'll be selling for a friend. I noticed many of them have the words "Direct Edition" on them. What does that mean? Does it make them more or less valuable/collectible or is there no difference? Thanks for your help!

According to my husband (he is pretty sure that he is correct)... Direct Edition means that it came from an actual Comic Book Vendor. It didn't come from a supermarket or other venue. He said that most people don't really care about whether or not it is a DE.
He is not an expert, but he has collected comic books for many years.

Direct Editions are comics sold on a non-returnable basis to comic stores. Newstand would be the term associated with comics sold on a returnable basis to drugstores, grocery stores, etc. At one time Newstand comics had UPC codes while Direct comics did not substituting artwork or a logo in its place. Over the last ten years as comic stores have become more sophisticated Direct Editions now include UPC codes. With the rare exception there is no perceived difference in value between a direct or newstand edition.
