I sold a brand new, unused shower curtain that sold for a very good amount. Was paid promptly for at end of auction. I mailed out priority, insured shipped on Monday. Was delivered on (2days)27th to daughters address. Received email Friday stating just delivery & is defective & wants me to take back & give full refund because daughter unhappy.
I sent 1st reply, Please return to me. Yes I will refund or replace if desired. Yes, it was brand new as advertised.
Sent 2nd email asking if package was damaged because it was insured & sent in good condition.
Do I refund entire amount? Do I have to pay return postage? I am a very small seller & this is the first time I have run into this. What would be fair to the buyer? I have a gut feeling it's buyer's remorse.
Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Maybe they wanted one with mildew already on it.

It soitainly sounds like buyer's remorse to me too. Perhaps they found another one cheaper elsewhere.
Did they say what the defect was with the curtain? I'd bet a buck that they will say it is ripped! (That is an easy enough defect to produce.)
Do you state a refund policy in your auction? If so, you have to go by that. (Morally anyway...)
Don't give a penny until it is received into your hands. Tell them that if it looks like they damaged it they will be liable.
I'd be willing to bet also that they'd be happy with a partial refund. Say... for the amount that shipping would cost you IF you were to refund the money or send a replacement. That way you'd be out less cash, and they might be happy if they saved 5 bucks or so.
tabbs, mildew... LoL! They can have mine if that's all they want!

Hi Sugar,
Thanks for the info. Mom said forwarding all emails to daughter to deal with from now on. Thanked me for my concern(which I am). Said daughter felt had been packaged for a long time & the dyes ran. Was fine when shipped because I opened it to check & repacked it, only took 2 days but maybe did somehow? Now do I refund when get curtain back less shipping costs? Do I pay for return shipping? Could I file with the po since it was insured or send ins. receipt to daughter? Mom says daughter would probable be glad to scan the damage for me. I would prefer to have the item incase it was washed. Stated had to be washed in cold water because of the red I guess.

Mine too at no extra charge.
Truth, I'd rather save up my negs for the really crazy ones I've heard about. Just hoping this won't get that way lol

I think it sounds like buyers remorse, too! I am not sure what you should do, though. If you have them send it back, you will probably have to pay the shipping back. I do not see how the PO could be responsible for the damage. Did you ask if the package was damaged or water-stained?

Hi Deichen,
I asked the Mom(lady who purchased this for daughter) & she didn't know, was just forwarded my questions to daughter.
Just received email from daughter asking for full refund because she found a "much better quality one for other bathroom at a lower price". Said was fabric (so was this one) & not damaged & better "no comparison" - her words. Would return it, if that's what I wanted.
My TOS states "All sales final" but I don't want an unhappy customer, neither do I wish to give this away. I suspect it got washed in warm water to make the fabric dye run (if it truly did, or perhaps ironed with steam to take out wrinkles.
I'm leaning toward asking her again if it was damaged in transit since she never answered that question. Then telling the daughter I will file a claim with the post office to get her mom's $ back. Less the postage. I believe that is more than fair. Thoughts anyone?

I had a buyer return item claiming a rip because of buyers remorse. Since I have made it clear that I do not refund shipping, I haven't had anyone try to pull this.
I also like the idea of her taking it to post office for insurance refund since it was sent new in package. It will be her problem if the feds catch her claiming fraud.
