Subject: LP Notice: eBay Informational Alert - Choice -
Dear me(not my seller id)(email addy),
We appreciate that you chose eBay to list the following item(s):
different types of the same thing-60 in all
Item # %$#@)(*&^%
TENTION CSR: Insert specific auction example here)
However, your listing(s) were in violation of eBay's policies. We would like to take this opportunity to let you know what part of your listing(s) are not permitted.
Your listing(s) contained the following information, "Your color choices are as follows; White, red, blue, green, black, peach, yellow, purple, silver, teal and burgundy. The most common scents are vanilla, clove, apple crisp, cinnamon, and blueberry, strawberry, mulberry and spice, though we are not limited in any way on the scent choice. ". In these listing(s) you offered multiple items as a "choice", allowing bidders to choose from a selection of items.(NO DUH; SOME PEOPLE LIKE A VARITY OF COLORS AND SCENTS IN THIER WIDGETS)
We realize that you may not have been aware of this policy, but offering choices in this way is not permitted on eBay, and can cause confusion among bidders at the auction's end. Although these auctions are in violation of our listing policies, we will allow
them to run to their scheduled end as a one-time courtesy.
In the single item format, you may list one item or one grouping of item(s) per auction. In the Dutch auction format, all items must be identical when placed in the same listing.
In the future, you may list your items in separate auctions, one for each item, or in separate Dutch auctions for multiples of an identical item. For example, if you have a quantity of items that only differ in size or color, you may list a Dutch auction for each item by size or color.
Please view our guideline page for a better understanding of our auction guidelines and how they affect the way you list your items:
Any future listings that are not in compliance with our Choice guidelines will be ended early and repeated violations may jeopardize your account status. We value you as a member of our community (espically with my $70-$100 worth of fees every month)and wish to continue this relationship. Therefore, we respectfully ask that you abide by eBay's Listing Policies and User Agreement in the future.
They are SUCH MORONS I could scream!! I emailed them back, informing them that if they took the time to read the listing, that it would not be a problem. Awaiting thier canned answer now. Thanks for letting me vent, and any help from you all out there would be greatly appreciated.

Here is thier choice guidlines; what did I do wrong, other then use an appearantly FORBIDDEN word?
Choice Auctions
A Choice Listing occurs when a seller allows buyers to choose from a selection of items. Choice Listings can be problematic because the item agreed upon is negotiated offline and can lead to either misrepresentation or fraud.
Policy: Choice Auctions are not allowed and will be ended. The insertion fee will be automatically credited for that listing
As a side note, will they give me extra credit because it was FLD when it went up? LOL!

eBay often gives that "might confuse the bidders" line as an explanation for why they have an inane policy. Obviously the reason for this rule is that they want to force you to list a different auction for each color. This greatly increases their listing fees. There is a way around it, just put in a phrase like "Sorry, due to eBay rules, no choice of color is allowed you get a color chosen by me at random." <wink> <nod> "If someone were to email asking for a specific color I'd have to turn them down. I'd choose a color at random and if by coincidence that color was the one they requested I guess they'd be happy. I want all of my customers to be happy."

Without seeing your auction, I can't be sure but let me try to explain.
Let's say I have a particular type of dress. I have them in four different sizes and five different colors.
I can't put up one auction offering a choice between the dresses. I can't put up four auctions (Size Medium Dress!!) offering a certain size and letting them choose a color. I can't put up five auctions (Pretty Blue Dress!!) offering a certain color and letting them choose a size.
I have to put up 20 auctions
(Size Large Blue Dress!!)
(Size Small Yellow Dress!!)
(Size Small Red Dress!!)
etc.
Now, if I happen to have six identical "Size Medium Green Dresses", I can list them in one Dutch auction.
The only exception I've seen is when someone will make a customized dress. In other words, I could offer a 'Customized Dress' and make it in the buyer's choice of color and size. Actually, I'm not positive this is legal but I see it a lot with certain dress types.

I do not want to advertise my auction, but these are candles (if you could not tell); votives, floaters and such, all hand made. We make them to order. People enjoy different colors/scents. These go well in a group, especially for the opening bid; we sell other hand crafted candles, with the same basic listing. Never any confusion before. And here is part 2 of my new and improved Twilight Zone (I can see ol' Rod now ); THE AUCTION IS RUNNING AGAIN!!! I cannot figure these dweebs out; they ended it @0500 today, and now it is up and running AGAIN (according to AW and MY EBAY) with the same END DATE AND TIME. I'M SO CONFUSED!!! Any ideas what Meg is thinking here? All opinions are welcomed.
Rick
edited to add; in thier origional letter, they said they would "let it ride" to the end, but they ended it. I got angry and must have missed that part when I had the email "your auction # xxxxxxx is ended". Then they restarted it again, that's why it is running again. Makes me wonder if anyone is on the same page....and what is to stop them from thier "pick and choose" policies again. We are offering a unique item, never seen before on ebay, or anywhere else I could find. If I have to, I will change the listings to eliminate the "keyword of evil", so to speak.

Policy - no choice auctions.
It doesn't matter if you have 10,000 colors or scents - you can't mention it.
Someone had to report your auctions to them, because they don't police the site.
Someone probably sells the same things you do (even though you think you have something no one else has, you don't) and got mad that you were running choice auctions, while they weren't (because they were following the rules of the game).
Stuff happens. Chalk it up and go on. No use getting mad over it. It's not worth it. Just reword your auctions. List with one scent, one color, one whatever.

Thank you, mtnmama, I am working on that now. It is so sad, though; I know votives and the like are common, but the rest of the candle stuff we offer is not. I will reword it in our descriptions now, as I think I have it.
Many thanks,
Rick
