I picked up this plate this week. It appears to be made from aluminum and is about 4" x 7" on the back it has a plane with Platterliner on the side. Any idea if this was used for serving airline food?

newton, this is a guess on my part, but I think what you have is just what it says - a platter liner for an individual steak plate.

The liner could be is used to protect the plate from scratches from a steak knife.

Or, I haven't been in one for ages, but didn't Pondersoa, Bonanza and those other steak houses use those aluminum liners over the top of those blackish brown oval trays when they served you your steak?

This is my guess.

Ponderosa and Bonanza still use these to protect the steak trays/plates.

Just got time to shoot a picture of it.

Because it has an airplane pictured on the back it makes me think it might have been for use on an airline.
