I came home and there's a letter stuck to my door from a lawyer. He has been working so hard to find me that he went through the post office. Letter doesn't say what he's after.
I keep going through my mind all the ebay stuff I've sold and no one has ever said they didn't receive their item. Not one. I don't know what I should do. I can't afford an attorney; all my income comes from ebay.
What should I do? I'm a single mom and I don't know what would happen to my little girl if this goes too far.
From all the dates on the letter and the p.o. from where he was trying to track me down, he's been looking for me for months now. I'm really scared about this.

I would find it odd that a reputable lawyer would just tack a notice to your door. Could anyone be playing a cruel trick on you?
On the otherhand, it may not have anything to do with eBay - maybe you had a long lost relative that left you something in there will.

Is there a street address and a telephone number on the letter? Give him a call. Bad news does not get better with age. I don't think if it was something bad they would put it in your door, they would have to give it to you in person.

There is a very good likelyhood that this letter has nothing to do with Ebay at all.
The fact that the letter doesn't tell you what this is all about says to me it is nonbusiness issue even if it was due to a bill in collections and they want to tap your paycheck for debt it would say so and even then the letter would have to be handed directly to you or some one in the house by a sherif or marshal and signed for to be a legal summons they must prove delivery was made.
Its I would think its not about an ebay sale gone bad as the person wouldnt have to search for you your buyers have your name and address and even access to your phone number through ebay.
How ever there is a good Chance the letter is about some long lost friend or relative you have lost contact with that has been looking for you for some reason.
There is even a good posiblity this is from one of them sweepstakes companies you know like we all get in the maal or use to get in the mail.
Its posible you won the $1 prize and have ignored there mail to you and they legally must go through the motions to find you before declareing the prize unclaimed we have had this happen a few times a curriour delivering important Time sentitive letter to the door only to turn out to be some sweepstakes company trying to find us to tell use we won the fuzz green booby prize and we havent made our claim or responed to there mail about it.
so I wouldnt bug out to much about this at all.

If you did something that could land you in prison the police would be looking for you, not a lawyer.
Besides if there were a problem somewhere the lawyer would have details in the letter.
Sounds more to me that this lawyer has some good news for you & wants to make sure he has the right person before disclosing it.
Just call him & of course, keep us posted.

I'm a little surprised that the letter didn't tell you WHY he's looking for you. I received a letter from an attorney stuck to my front door a few months ago (not for me, it was for the person who lived at this address before me). It had all of the lawyer's contact information: name, address, phone number. It gave court information, reason for the notice. It was trying to collect on a bad check. There was even a photocopy of the check attached! There was A LOT of detail on just two sheets of paper. I agree with the other posts... call the attorney right away. One way or the other, you need to know what is going on.

all it says is that he wants to contact me regarding a case he is working on. Says he'll be back tonight. A lawyer (it is a real lawyer on real letter head, checked on that) is going through the trouble of tracking me down over several months and coming to my house several times in one day, and at night over a case??
I am really worried. I live alone with my daughter and I don't understand what this is all about.
Who is Jerry12??? e-mail me [email protected] I never heard of him.

Don't panic. The case may have nothing directly to do with you. He may be tracking down a crook and while surfing ebay he noticed that you once sold the guy something.
I once had several lawyers contact me because someone using my company name was going around selling computer systems to different companies, taking a deposit and disappearing. It was easy to prove he had nothing to do with me and even easier after he was arrested. Too bad he was crooked. I would have hired him. He was a better salesman than I was.

I think you should pack up tonight and move. Don't tell anyone where you are going. Change your ebay ID.
What a way to go through life.
He probably wants you as a witness, or to get info on some boring case he has.
Don't lose any sleep over it. Let the lawyer do the worrying.

I was down at the big house/pokie today visiting my mom, and I overheard a couple of big dicks (short for large detectives) talking about you being involved in some big cow pie heist...
Is it true?

Nothing worse than being a cow pie heister! I hear they aren't very nice to them in the Big House/Joint.
Maybe the lawyer got your name from someone else and you are a potential witness to something. Did anyone die unexpectadly in your past?
They usually don't post a stick up note on your door if they have a serious legal matter concerning you.

I don't know about you, but whenever I have something extremely important to say, I post it to someone's door.
I can rest assured, this is the most secure way to guarantee that the item is received by the person it is intended for.
Return receipt?
Registered?
Not me. I tape it to the door.
Rain?
Wind?
I use duct tape.
sometimes I use cowpies.

As mcjane has said, if you were in any kind of trouble (criminal anyway) you would be receiving a visit from the police and not a note taped to your door from an attorney!
If you are in trouble (civil anyway) you won't go to jail and maybe this lawyer will agree to represent you! Maybe he's an ambulance chaser (have you witnessed any accidents/mishaps in the last 3 years????)

Call him and ask him why he is looking for you---maybe you inherited something. That happened to my sister, the lawyer couldn't locate her and she had inherited a house from an old neighbour.
If you were getting sued, it wouldn't be a lawyer looking for you...the sheriff's department would serve you with papers

open the letter and read it.
if it is vague as to what he wants, ask your friend to call him.
or if you dont have a friend, call him and pretend to be your neighbor and said she is away on family emergency and she asked me to find out what it is all about.
hear the tone of voice and judge for yourself, the worse is you dont collect on your grand aunt's large fortune!

it wasn't in an envelope, was just stuck in between the storm door and the front door.
he came by just a bit ago. evidentally an old friend of mine was charged with something and I'm the only witness to keep her from going to prison for the next 20 yrs. I had moved and not given out my new address to anyone because of a different problem.
I guess I'm important to someone for a short time. He got my address from the post office. The trial is this coming Friday too, so I guess that's why he was so anxious.
He saw all my ebay stuff piled throughout the house (really awful lol) but he didn't care since he was so preoccupied.
Around here the Social Services have been targeting poor white women with white babies for adoption for wealthy residents. The lawyer knows it too but says the judge is on such good terms with them, he goes along with whatever they say, esp if the defendent is on welfare.
I'm glad my little girl isn't within the age range anymore. They only go after the ones under 12 months.
I've been in hiding for a few years now because of my ex who's been threatening to kill me, so I had thought he might've pulled some stunt again.
Well, I'm glad it's not against me, but I'm tired of all these women who lose their children just because they're poor while they let the wealthier get away with abuse. This one finally killed a child a couple years ago after she had abused him for a long time and no one would do a thing about it. They got my friend for felony child neglect/abuse for not doing laundry and having dirty dishes in the sink (just a few breakfast dishes)and they already had the adoptive parents picked out before they'd gone to her home for the so called "investigation". I guess that's the government for ya. I'll be glad when I move to Canada.
Well, ty for your comments. I was really worried there.
Still would like to know about Jerry12 though. email me someone ok???
