I rarely send anything very heavy to Europe but have a 3.5lb package I need to send and the rates are really high. Cheapest I can come up with (for air, not considering surface) is approx. $25 through USPS. UPS is about twice that. Any suggestions?

I send a lot to Europe & Asia and find that the USPS rates are by far the best. If it is going to a country that accepts GPM and the item will go into a GPM envelope or tyvek bag the rates the pretty good. Sounds like, by the weight you mentioned, that would not apply. The rates for the tyvek are much more than the lg & sm GPM envelopes. Your best bet is USPS Airmail unless they want to wait for surface which is really not much cheaper anymore.
Hope this helps. Sounds like I told you what you already know! I work part time at a mailing place so I have been fortunate to learn quite a bit more about mailing than just from my ebay sales.

usps global priority mail can handle up to 4 lbs in a box,but it is at least 40 dollars.
25 dollars by air to europe is probably the best rate you can get.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am surprised that surface is just a couple of dollars less but looked that up on the usps site.
Guess this will go USPS.
