Anybody remember the date of the winter Free Listing Date? Sounds like this one was very productive for the summer doldrums.

For the past several years it has been during the week before Christmas and usually enables a 10 day auction to blanket both Christmas and New Year's holidays.
Ebay is smart (did I actually say that!?!) to do it over the holidays since the conventional thinking is that holidays are bad for sales. I think the excitement of the FLD gets a lot of people talking, increased the number of auctions and brings out the "mothballed" stuff that collectors like me love to search for.
As to my FLD items, I have had an extremely busy week, best since last November/December and ebay gets lots of FVF's from me. My average sale is usually 60-75% and with FLD I went and listed 200 items and it looks like about a 35% sell through rate for me, with a respectible number of BIN's.
So thanks Ebay, this promotion shows that when you work with sellers everyone benefits. Let's do more of it!

I am falling out of love with free listing days.
The regular items are selling as per normal....several bidders poised for a juicy snipe fest and a couple of yokels competing with each other.
So the other stuff, though I am selling isn't selling with multiple bids like I would be happier seeing. And I am talking lots of photos and great descriptions.
Of course my desire to point out every potential flaw might be shooting me in the foot, but it's a carryover from the items I usally sell....ack.
One experimental item looks good, but the others are just about ready to be pulled and relisted in the fall.
Well, I had to try it to learn about it.

If the economy and the markets continue to tank, the next eBay FLD should be in late September. Just in time for eBay to close out/salvage another quarter.

Just remember that they give only a few hours notice, so you have to stay on top of it by checking the announcements board or AW daily (for when some kind soul has already done their homework and tells us all about it).
With that said, I'll have to learn to follow my own advice. I was woefully underprepared for the last one.

I will be cataloguing and preparing more mister lister files to be prepared when the next one does come - whether its end of September or end of December..
I'm THINKING that it was around Dec. 20th last year, but don't quote me on that - I could pull my Ebay bill for Dec. and check if you really wanna know.

When is the NEXT free for all FLD ?
I'm going to take a stab and say when gegy.com goes live for bidding.
Funny how this one happened when the gegy.com Beta testing started

When is the NEXT free for all FLD ?
I guess sooner rather than later.......
But....I'll predict that it will differ and may not be a free-for-all

According to my accounting records, it was 12/20 in both 1999 and 2000. Probably be around the same time this year.

keziak This FLD IMHO hasn't lifted eBays listings, quite the opposite will be revealed from Monday when so many multiple repeat auctions are not going to be relisted.
The challenge for eBay is to achieve sustained growth.
Maybe listing fees need to be dramaticaly lowered?

humber2,
That's a most excellent site! Makes for a great pasttime watching eBay's listing #s slide relentlessly!
When was the last time eBay listings dipped below 4 million???
eBay can't reduce listing fees without impacting earnings and angering Wall Street. The Street expects UNRELENTING revenue and earnings growth. One of the pitfalls of being a Public company. They wouldn't have that problem if they were Private!

I want to know when the next FLD is so I can AVOID it like the plague hehe. My wonderful stuff ::chortle:: is just lost in the sea of trash that got listed. I was away on vacation and had set up my current auctions ahead of time having no idea about the FLD...stuff that usually brings out minor bidding wars is sitting there with no bids ::waah::. I got this sinking feeling most items are going to end up going for the minimum ::boo hoo::.
Seriously, now....anyone else out there think FLDs are not all that good for their business????

In Sept. 1999 there was a spike in eBay auction listings according to the Medved site. Appears listings plateaued and then started to slide in August 1999 and then the "spike" to skew quarterly #s. Was there a FLD in Sept. 1999?
Select Yearly and 1999:

There was also a spike in Dec. 1999. 2 FLDs in one year???

If memory serves me, the September 1999 event was a response to the $1.00 reserve fee debacle. The ones in December are always offered in order to keep the holiday numbers from flagging too far.
