I recently bought a new computer, and now when I scan, each time I scan a photo I never can see what it looks like because it automatically saves to disk, and I can't see what it looks like or how large it is. All I want is someting basic. What do you recommend?

Usually a scanner will come with some kind of software to scan and make .jpg's. If you look around in the HELP, you can probably find the way to do it. A scanner will also come with some type of device driver. Make sure you got all that installed properly.
I prefer PaintShopPro. It's a nice, relatively inexpensive graphics package. It also "sees" my scanner and will initiate a scan. PSP lets me go on from there. It's more than scanning software though, and it might be overkill for what you want to do.

I bought an older (ie cheap) copy of the Print Shop Photo Pro. It has a preview button that lets me scan and open immediately to edit it. Cost about $20 at Wal-mart.

It will save as jpgs, but I just can't see it in advance to see if I need to scan as a different size or whatever.
