I was looking for a link to the stores on the eBay Home Page - did I miss it??
It would seem to me that would be a logical place to have a link to the store directory which would benefit both the store owners as well as eBay.
I'm going to check again, I must have missed it.

I think most people would be better off developing their own websites or finding some other e-shop. I was interested in the the E-bay stores, but can't believe how badly it has been handled.
(or maybe I do on 2nd thought). It still has potential, but I'm sticking with auctions and building my own e-shop with the help of some freinds. It's easier than you think.
There is life outside of E-bay,

A few days ago I wanted to search eBay stores
to see what people were doing. I couldn't find a link on the home page to get in either.
I did do a title search for "eBay Store" just to see what would happen. I found a few that way.
I thought the stores were supposed to have a search link? Lab Rat4

There is a tiny eBay stores logo link on the homepage. If you clikc on the word "browse" at the top of any page, stores will then appear in the navbar. The links are not really obvious. EBay needs to do a lot more advertising for the stores to be a successful venture across the board.
I've been having decent luck with them, but I always get a good share of bidders that check out my other listings and win or buy more than one item.

It will be an interesting development to watch. BIN has been such a huge success, it would follow that the stores would be too. The problem seems to be the stores are taking second fiddle, I don't know how buyers can find the stores when auctions get the most attention.

not only do i get NO traffic into my store,it also gets in the way of listing on ebay as my listing form defaults to shop instead of auction.
it seems that ebay technical staff has plenty to do like integrating half, com and bringing in abe.com etc ,then they get doverted into ebay stores so aw and andale and auction works cannot steal thier dealers away from them, now they have succeeded in fooling us in opening a store, they are back working on half.com.
half.com is a big job.

I found this thread way down at the bottom of the page. I would have hoped to see a few more reports here from "them thats doin"
As to my own "OP ED" portion of this post, to me stores are a big *yawn*.
They may be nice and slick for sellers, but for the buyer - the "fun" factor is missing, and its missing big time...

The ebay stores are a missed opportunity for ebay. Done right they could have been a wonderful way to merchandise items that sell to a more specialized clientele, or to cross-merchandise with ebay items.
Instead it looks like a half-completed project by a junior college intern.
I don't know which I hate more, the ugliness of the stores, or the complete lack of marketing know-how that left them high and dry.

I have sold 4 items out of my store, and I offer 10% savings if they pay by money order or check, just so I don't have to have extra paper work,
What I am not to pleased with is that all the items in the Store show up on my
Me Page.......I get tired of seeing them still there, I like to sell them or not see them, they stay there too long for me.
Also, I feel I would get better exposure if I listed them on Auction, I don't feel enough people are able, or know how to even find the store. So what good is having it if people aren't able to get there easily. If the item is listed with the BIN
it might sell quicker, in the Store it just sits with no action.
Just my feeling,

I also recently opened a ebay store and 0 traffic. There are no listing fees to entice us list in our stores, but ebay has left the traffic out. I even listed some regular auctions so that when people looked at my regular auctions they would see the link about the store and no one goes there. Seems like at this time ebay's stores are just a waist of time for me, free listing or not!

I don't think eBay is really serious about this concept. If they were, they would integrate eBay store items into same Search for auction items.
Don't get it.

I put around 200 items in our eBay store store the first week they were available, and so far have not sold a single one by that route.
On Free listing Day, I posted exact duplicates of each item with similar pricing and sold around 20% of the listings.
These are generally "no-name" band music CDs, but they DO sell on auctions.
If eBay promoted their stores more, sales would follow, but they aren't doing that (Yet). I assume they will be promoting heavily before September, but they're trying to work out the bugs in the system at this stage. I'd feel better about the stores if I saw ANY changes being made, but I have to assume they're doing something...
I really don't think eBay has any intentions of ever adding the storefront items to their main search. What's the benefit to them? FVF? They do just fine with auctions.
Bottom line- As long as eBay makes $0.30 per auction listing and $0.05 per store listing, they aren't going to to add the stores to the search engine.

The first week of stores (nearly 3 weeks ago) I launched 30 store listings with my usual 100-odd auctions, and I put a link to my store in those auctions. That week I had 2 sales on the store listings. The next go-round of auctions, I dropped the links -- and have had no store sales since.
The same items have been selling steadily (5-10/week) as BIN on auctions, at the same price as in the store.
I agree with the other posters in that the store listings are a pain - they show up in the "view sellers other auctions", do not cooperate with 3rd party software solutions, and I think they are confusing to buyers.
eBay has totally flubbed this effort thus far. There is supposed to be some sort of major launch (re-launch?) of the stores when they start charging fees in September. I remain cautiously optimistic because I think these could be a great way to build sales.
But unless we get a major marketing push from eBay and a lot of improved functionality, I think nearly everyone is going to drop out of them (myself included) and they will die a quick death.

What do you mean that they are bringing in abe.com? I sell on ABE and haven't heard anything about this.

wbmodrrsupaolcom -- if you want to build your own web store, I found an easy solution. Some sellers on eBay sell "webcatalog builder" by smithmicro v3.0 I got mine for $15 shipped. This simple program will let you publish a web store skeleton in about an hour. It was *REAL* easy for me.
I added some customization to include mal's free eCommerce shopping cart and I was ready to go. You can take a look at my store as an example or email me [email protected] and I'll get you all the information.
Thanks.

How are sales in the eBay stores? In a word, dreadful. I cannot wait for my items to be out of my store today and tomorrow, finally, the wait is over. What a bunch of nothing. Would not even consider using this storefront again. Have had much better success, just listing items up for bid--the usual old way. My idealism and naivitity has been a good old hoot for eBay, and the sad part, I am not the only one taken in by their hype. What were they thinking?
However, just a fast thought. I do not use Buy it Now in my regular auctions, but time and time again, I see some sellers having fantastic good fortune using this option. Perhaps because buyers can find those items in Search---the eBay store items are in their own little world all their own. And the casual buyer doesn't have a clue how to find them!

At first I sold a few things, but now its dead.I think I would be better off to just sell on the other sites and E-Bay auctions.Heck I do better with Amazon Marketplace than E-Bays store.

i never started one as a seller for the simple reason that also as a buyer i never look at them. veiw sellers other auctions is enough. i dont understand the concept of paying for something (ebay store) you already have (veiw sellers other auctions)just because it sounds like you have a shop????

I like my store. Finally, just last weekend I had a couple of sales. The thing I like best is that I can sort my items -- the categories make searching easier for my bidders too I suspect. Rather than a long list of 100+ items, there are six little categories with "just the right thing" (hopefully!) all organized and ready to peruse.
One of the gals who bought from my Store came directly from an auction, searched a category totally unrelated and found 8 books to buy. The other bidder added a pair of children's books to her regular bid.
For me, this is a viable alternative. Frankly, I can't afford to list a book for $1 or a buck-fifty on eBay unless it's going to go for more. In store, I can do so, and still make a profit.
For now, I'm there. Keeping things stocked is not easy. I'm trying to push up the load (running over 100 items right now) which is a lot more than usual.
I'm hoping this will take off. Six categories is NOT enough for me, but I'm working with it.

I closed mine recently after about a month. I only made 1 sale. I put the stuff back up on regular auctions this week and already sold 3 with BIN and have bids on 3 others.

I opened my ebay store as soon as it became became available, and the first 30 day period has just ended.
It's hard to make an accurate assessment as to it's success at this early stage. I sold 15 items in the past month, and this amounts to a saving of $7.50 in listing fees, but if the $9.95 were already being charged, I would be at least $2.45 worse off than in auction listings, assuming that I would have only received BIN price for those listings.
Going on these early figures, I feel I would need to sell at least 50 items per month from the store to make it a viable proposition. This would amount to a total saving of $20 per month, but only if I list items which would be unlikely to fetch more than the BIN price.
The advantage for me is that my higher priced slower selling items are getting exposure on ebay whereas I would only be able to list them twice in auctions before the listing fees start becoming too high. It's also a good place to direct my regular customers. I do have my own online store, but I find it is too time consuming to keep it updated, considering the limited traffic a private online store receives.
I'm hoping that once ebay starts charging in September, they will also promote it further, and maybe the customers will get into the habit of store searches along with the usual auction searches.
