I act for a UK Registered Charity. I am thinking about listing some lots on eBay for the benefit of the charity, but I guess you folks do not get any tax benefits for donating to UK Charities. Any thoughts please. All proceeds will go the the Charity, I will waive my listing fees and Paypal fees.

Hello. One clarification on US tax rules. If one receives a benefit from a charity, then that amount is NOT deductible. Many fundraisers are a combination. For example, if one attends a charity dinner for $100 a head, then one typically receives from the charity a note regarding the "value" of the dinner, e.g. $35. In that instance, $65 per person would be deductible; the remainder not.
As this applies to eBay auctions, buyers generally do not expect to receive a taxable deduction for their purchase. They tend to buy to benefit the charity, and less so for the tax benefit.
You might want to look at the charitable board. They have "angel auctions", which may be what you're looking for.

Just don't list any Microsoft software !! They just nailed a charity in Australia that gives used computers to poor kids for not erasing the MS OS and buying new software for the PCs. Seems the PCs donated by a company were using MS "site" license software, and do not go with the PC !! And MS refused to donate software to the charity and had their lawyer jump on them.

Thanks for that comment reamond. I feel that it is SAD that MS put their lawyers on the case. I guess that the charity had no idea that they were doing anything wrong.
