I got an email last night from a hotmail ID but in the letter it claimed to be coming from [email protected]. In the letter the writer claimed to be a fraud investigatory for ebay and wanted me to let her know if I have had any dealings with a particular seller accused of fraud. A list of ebay IDs followed. What puzzled me about this email is:
-since when does ebay use hotmail to send out letter?
-I never heard of [email protected]. I have heard of safeharbor, to whom I forwarded the letter
-I never dealt with any of the IDs mentioned
-the letter came to an email ID I use for work only and have never used on ebay

Sounds like someone is playing with you here ... I also doubt that eBay would use a hotmail account. Just file it under the SPAM folder ...

This should be reported to eBay. I believe this is auction interferance. I am all for ferreting out fraudulent sellers but this could be someone out for revenge.

It would be auction interference if I was bidding in any of this guy's auctions, but I never heard of any of these IDs and I never used the email ID on ebay to which the email was sent. I'm waiting to see what safeharbor says.

If eBay is using hotmail to send out messages they are in violation of hotmail's terms of use which states only for personal use - no businesses.
