I received this e-mail from a buyer:

"i have a problem the movie i received today is broken all up , there is about
ten differnt pieces, i have bought about 20movies off ebay and never had
this problem.this was suppose to be a x-mas gift for my daughter, but what do
i do with it now. i cant give her ten differnt pieces.i did not pay for this,
so is there anyway to resolve this, thanks" xxxxx

This guy buys a used video tape in July for a christmas present?? And how does a video tape get broken into ten pieces?? Even if a video gets broken, it doesn't do pieces...it just cracks all to hell. But it isn't in pieces...

It was shipped in a box enclosed in a bubble envelope and it was in the original box.

I don't think this guy is being honest at all.

I buy Christmas presents in January, Febraury, Mar, etc, all the way up to Christmas Eve, you yes they could be buying in July for Christmas. I would ask them to send the tape back, box and all. Even in a box, and in it's original box, and in a bubble envelope, it could have been crushed, which would have broken the pieces up.

You could request that the Buyer to return the item pieces, offering a refund for the merchandise (including first class return shipping costs) and see what happens.

Does the guy have good feedback? Many people
shop for Christmas in the summer, and I do believe if you ran over a video tape with a mailtruck or something, it might come to pieces. I'm not saying your instincts are wrong, I'm simply saying your Buyer could be telling the truth.

If it were me, and I truly believed the Buyer was being dishonest, I would simply refund his money, and block him from my auctions.

Sorry you are having trouble, and hope you are able to resolve the issue without feeling 'taken'.

I think he's yankin' your chain! I'd only refund him if he sent me back the video and the original shipping box cuz the way you packed it, it would only have arrived in that condition if it got run over by the mail truck. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!

In my opinion, he just wants some money back and for you to let him keep the tape. Seems to be the scam du jour from what I'm seeing on the boards lately...

Triggerfish,

I have had three recent "drive overs" by the Post Office and Federal Express. You could still see the tire tracks on the packages. All three of my bidders indicated that the items were packaged extremely well. One item had a forklift driven through it.

I am beginning to think that concrete is the only packing material the Post Office and other carriers can't get through. LOL

I would have the buyer either email you a photograph of it with the title showing clearly, or send it back.

Videos do get smashed however. I sent one to a friend along with a ceramic oil cruet that she'd admired in one of my auctions. The tape arrived in pieces, and the cruet was reduced to such small pieces and powder that she didn't even know what I'd sent her. Even the postal worker admitted it looked like it had been run over.

You didn't mention insurance. If he didn't buy it, I'd calmly mention that you offered it, and that insurance is for what the PO does as we sellers rarely smash stuff to send to our buyers.

ok, just emailed the dude asking for a pic of the tape and a description of the condition of the box and other packaging material it came with.

ok now this is just a question so don't get bent out of shape. a month or maybe 2 atmost ago, i thought i read a threads where you said you were leaving this board and never coming bACK. it had something to do with an auction question you posted about retractioons or something then some shill statements were made by others......i think it was a watch or keychain or something..the more i think about it, it was you...what happened???

A moderator suspended my posting privileges after a couple people got into a fight in my thread I started and some other person was accusing me of shilling my auctions and the moderator left his post up then deleted my post where I denied having anything to do with shill bidding. This same person has messed with my auctions so many times since then that I had to create a new seller name and start from scratch because he kept creating new ids after I'd block one of them. I'm not ever posting what my new id is due to the unethical people reading these threads who like to mess with people's auctions. Someone had done this several months ago with another poster and my auctions in the same night (this other seller knows who she is and I won't post her id) and left the fb along the lines of "I changed my mind and if you rate me bad I'll make you pay." We got her butt kicked off ebay, although I'm sure she just got back on with another email addy. The other seller and I questioned that night whether or not it was another poster doing it. I have no reason to shill my auctions, esp when a lot of them as of recently have been closing for $4 or less. Mostly stuff just trying to get rid of around the apartment. About a week ago I was able to start posting again with this id. Up until then I was receiving a message saying I was not authorized to post. This other seller I consider a friend and I enjoy seeing her posts.

what is this third degree questioning totally unrelated to tigress problem with her buyer???

If I am upset/angry/hurt/embarassed/sad/tired/stupid/bored or anything else and declare that I'm never coming back does that alert you, or anyone, to flaunt it if I do decide to return? Tigress has been a most helpful individual on this board! I'd think our minds could be fully occupied with addressing each ebay issue that posters bring to this forum.

Mom, calls 'em as I sees 'em

This is the response I got back from the buyer:

"one coner of movie is broken upthe part of the movie that can be lifted
upward, where the tape goes to other side is also broken, the box has one side
riped off , as for as the envelope that you put it in the outside is tore
just a little bit, but the bubble are not tore, i dont have a scaner, i wish
i did, i would send you a picture. i just dont know what to do.let me know."

he doesn't mention the box that the envelope was in. He changes it from ten pieces to "one coner" and the part that lifts up being broken.

how I packed it was tape in bubble envelope with a back up shipping label jic and it was coated with packaging tape so that there wasn't any paper showing (in case it got wet). Then it was put into a box surrounded with newspapers with a mailing label and it was taped over with the same clear packaging tape. I think he is trying to say there was no box which wasn't the case. I just don't see how what he is saying is possible.

I think he's just slowly revising his story so that you won't think he's doing what he's doing...brilliant, eh? NOT!

He probably feels busted at this point. At least I hope so! Maybe the scam is over.

One of my real pet peeves!

PLEASE ship videos in BOXES -- they certainly do get damaged in bubble mailers, in my very unhappy experience!
