I have been selling on Ebay for over 2 years. It's a small business and I recently had a problem with delivery of some customers items. Most of the customers have been understanding. I did receive 3 negs. from the deal (During this process I had by the way emailed and phoned those that I could and expained the problem and offered them a refund for the auction and their postage costs or ask them to wait a week until the item could be delivered). I have never had anything like this happen before. They all apeared fine with the week delay and I promptly shipped the items out when promised.when I did ship the items I offered a coupon off their future purchase or free shipping on this item (I let them choose. They all chose the coupon and we're not talking about a lot of people 10 to be exact. Now my question is 2 of the 3 that neg. me I did not wish to neg back. ( I felt as if I deserved it. The 3rd one however paid me late and in the neg comment made it soud as if I took 2 months to deliver when I didn't. When I first listed this item I ask for a 3 week delivery time as for it is a special order item (Which by the way I have never done before). I am at a loss ... Do I neg this 3rd person or not??? Please help with suggestions and advice any would be appreciated.Should I no longer sell special order items like this???

Never Neg anyone.... This will only add more hate to our world
and will solve nothing ...It will only make you feel good for
a shot time...Then the anger will return...I would respond to neg
in terms that future bidders can relate too...but never stoup to the level
of some one like that......just move on and evaluate the product you offer..
This is yet another reason eBay should revamp this type of forum..

Never neg ANYONE???
So. If you get burned, you don't do your part to protect the ebay community from this very same person???
Don't neg on a whim. But DEFINITELY neg those who deserve it. It's the right thing to do.

seller always have to put up with customer complaints and demands,it comes with the territory.
i would not neg the customer, but just add an explanation in your own feedback under his neg.
like ebay always said, bidders look at the overall ratings.
sometimes i see sellers with zero neg and i know they have been selling for years, this is not possible, they make concessions to avoid negs.

Thank you all so much for your suggestions. I will first calm down and then respond to the feedback left. I really do like this forum. I just found it last night. There is a lot of great advice here!!!
I also have another question about non paying bidders. I have not in the past really "gone after them" so to speak but after reading a few of these threads it seems to only make good business sense to file for fvf etc.
Thanks,

TSR, if they don't pay the very least you should do is file for FVF refund. If you didn't sell the item, there's no reason eBay should get anything. I don't even consider that "going after" anyone.
Now, sending out a nastygram every week, referring them to collection agencies, getting lawyers to write letters, and so forth ... that's going after someone!

one thing about e commerce is the brisk pace business takes place.
often land retailers are not used to the pace, they will have a cybershop and not check their emails or answer inquires.
by the time they answer, customers either have lost interest or just dont even remember what the question is for.
i know i do this,i asked a question and someone answers a dew days to a few months later,i dont recall what i asked.
if they remind me of the content, well, time has passed and i am no longer interested.
your customers if they do not read your delivery time, will become impatient of your delivery schedule.
may be you need to stock up,have something ready on the shelf!!!!

Obviously, if I have a bad run-in with a "buyer", then my posting a neg to his account allows YOU as a fellow seller to see that this person has caused problems before. Based on my comments, you can gauge whether to accept his bid, retract it, take a little more caution, whatever.
It's definitely more beneficial than just smelling the flowers and letting it all go -- so that this person can terrorize someone else.

peiklk... my rasta Brother or Sista
I understand the concept but
Half my bidder are Snippers...Am I supposed to pay a staff member to
monitor 300 plus auctions and cancel bids at the last minute
based on this theory or maybe check how many negs a bidder has
after the sale and refuse the winning bid..? and then rack up the negs
on my end...?

wbbbell-
Thanks and I agree.
hwahwahwahwa- I have always sold stock that I had on my shelves until this item became available to me. this is a very unique item that is strictly special order. As I had said earlier I have been selling for over 2 years. I am not a huge/big time seller but I recently proudly received powerseller status.
Over the course of my selling career on ebay I have had a total of 7 negs. all of which were retalitory (Which are easily identified as being such- bad checks mainly) until now. I was just curious if most of you thought it was a bad idea to sell a special order item. I have stated the delivery time in the auction & the about me page.
Thanks,

If you don't wish to make USE of the information others have provided, then fine. So it may not help YOU as an individual.
However, I will continue to do what is right, because most of us out here aren't running 300 auctions at a time -- and not all neg bidders are snipers. So it protects your other buyers as well.
The seller should do what is right. If other sellers don't use it, then fine.

My brother my brother my brother..
you don’t have to have 300 auction to have a snipper hit
Just one...that’s my point...and a neg doesn’t always tell the whole story
by cancelling out a bidder because of their feedback..may cost you in the end..
please tell me at what number of negs do you cancel a bidder bid..if you catch
a high neg FBer .

NEVER LEAVE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK. Until Ebay changes the feedback program I will never leave negative feedback. NPB's and those that respond with retaliatory feedback are pigs! NEVER try to teach a pig to sing, it wastes your time and seriously annoys the PIG!. Please feel free to use this phrase in any future discussions on feedback. Let the eBay "heroes" that profess to leave the appropriate negative feedback suffer the negative/retalliatory consequences. Do not give me, that we are all each others keepers. Remember that those same eBay "heroes" would cut your throat to have the opportunity to sell to your bidders,NPB's or not.

TSR, I also have another question about non paying bidders. I have not in the past really "gone after them" so to speak but after reading a few of these threads it seems to only make good business sense to file for fvf etc.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE file for those FVF's! A neg to a buyer is inconsequential, 3 NPB's does have consequences! SHOUT IT FROM THE ROOFTOPS: File FVF's!!!!!
Now, as to the neg. I have left 2 negs for NPB's, would have left more but 2 weasels were suspended before I got to them. I got one retaliatory neg in return, one has never left a FB in their eBay career and didn't respond to my neg.
That being said, your neg would be a retaliatory neg, wouldn't it? I would just respond to theirs on your FB and don't leave them anything.
BTW, I now don't bother leaving negs for buyers. I won't until eBay fixes the feedback system.

I don't see much of a point leaving a negative in this case as it appears to be retaliatory in nature.
I do, however, take issue with those who insist on waiting for eBay to change the system before leaving negatives. This is a very convenient excuse for inaction:waiting until risks are removed is so utopian. Are we becoming such wimps that we will shirk from doing what is right and telling the truth? In which case, the failure of the feedback system rests in our cowardice and not in its design.

I have left negatives and (knock on wood), have not had any retaliatory negs. The reason may be that I just state the facts. I do not get personal nor emotional. The facts being: EOA 1/1/01, emailed XX times, did not honor auction. -- and that it is. I have only neged for failing to complete transactions. I've read a lot of feedback that attacks the buyer/seller and what does that do? Gets them riled up and they attack back. This is only human nature.
If I see negative feedback on an auction I am going to bid, I follow it back. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to determine whether or not the feedback is retaliatory in nature.
For the most part, I believe the system works. However, there are always people that will misuse it and that small percentage of misuse is always what gets the most attention.

I will be filing for fvf from now on. Until I found this forum (and I know this sounds crazy) I had not realized how important it was. I have not had that many non payers but there have been enough. I did not know that they could get suspended. Until now, I did not realize the importance.
Thanks to eveyone else for the advice.
