I just received my first BidPay payment today. BidPay says to ship to the person in Venezuela and says to inform them if the buyer wants me to ship anywhere else. The person says to ship to Florida.

I'm just kinda worried. I ship to buyers that have unconfirmed addresses with PayPal all the time, for the most part I've always heard that I shouldn't worry about it too much. Is it the same as BidPay?

TIA.

That happens to me a lot..i ship where the buyer tells me to. I would imagine that bidpay has this fellows address registered there and all of his bidpay payments all have the same address..if the buyer wants it shipped to florida, ship it there. Lot of my foreign buyers stockpile stuff at a friends house here in the states and they must ship it to them all at once.

BidPay says to ship to the person in Venezuela ... The person says to ship to Florida.

I had the exact same thing happen( Venezuelan buyer, asked to ship to Miami), and I even emailed bidpay, and asked them, and they told me that my buyer had a "solid relationship" with bidpay, and for me to go ahead and ship to Miami. I took it from their responce, this guy (my buyer) was a big spender, and bidpay already knew he did this.

Doesn't mean your buyer is on the up and up, but shipping to miami makes sense.... You could email bidpay and ask....

Sometimes it is a vacation home in the states or business residence.

I've had several Latin American/Caribbean buyers request shipping to what sounds like a freight consolidator/forwarding service in Miami; that's another possibility.

In general, I'd be a lot less concerned about an international buyer wanting an item shipped to a USA address than a USA buyer wanting it shipped out of the country. The goal of fraudsters is to have the receiving address somewhere without effective law enforcement.

"Me Too " ...

Except mine was in Peru. I followed the bidpay rules and submitted the notice to their customer support. It was only a 5$ money order and they told me they would risk it.

I agree with books^3 that they probably buy a bunch of stuff and use some type of remailing service to save on cost.

QUESTION: If the buyer turned out NOT to be legit after you have shipped the goods, is that BidPay's problem or yours? I guess I can go read their TOS, but if anyone knows off the top of their heads, I'd appreciate knowing.

Thanks.

misscandle, that is a good question. Last I looked (about 6 mos ago) their TOS did not address that question, and they did not respond to the email I sent their support to ask.

I know that BidPay does an extenstive analysis of the bidders. One person from Turkey told me that he had to fax them a letter, a copy of his photo ID, and a copy of the credit card. So I have always assumed that if bidpay fell victim to a bad CC, that bidpay would eat the loss. But again, I have not verified that in a TOS.

Well, I read their TOS and I'm still not clear on this point. I've sent off an e-mail to their customer support, so we'll see what they say.

Heavens To Betsy! I've received an answer from BidPay already. I'm in shock.

Here's what I wrote to them:

Subject: Seller Liability

As a seller, if I receive a money order from BidPay as payment for an auction and ship the goods to the buyer, and THEN it turns out that the buyer used a stolen credit card, do I have to pay the money back to BidPay?

Also, if the credit card is legit, but the buyer inititates a charge back because they do not like the goods, does the seller have to pay back the money order?

Basically, I want to know how much protection I will have as a Seller.

Thanks.

THE ANSWER FROM BIDPAY:

Dear XXXXX,

The answer to both your questions is no.

Best Regards

So there we have it. Thanks, BidPay!
