Yes, the garage thread got my attention and got me in gear. I can't find the thread now.

After 2 years, count them 1,2 I finally found my livingroom floor and my dog found his beloved toy.

I have worked tirerlessly(sp) getting my life organized. I went out and bought 8 of those RINO shelves, erected them into my garage, and I'm transfering ALL stuff out there out of boxes and onto the shelves.

What a great feeling this is turning into.

Back to work!

p.s. It seems like a slow day for AW so thought I'd post this. And since I only sell on eBay I feel it is eBay related.

Packer you inspire me ~ and so did that thread! I am sick of everything being everywhere! I love Ebay ~ and I don't want to quit ~ but I do so want my house back!

Packer ~ I know you are an old pro ~ so may I ask what you do about boxes? Getting them is no trouble ~ but storing them is another problem. I hate taking the time to break them down ~ and I am not a good judge of what will fit in a box unless the box is together.........but how do you store them? I know they take up much less space the other way.........

But I do so want my house back too!!!
Do not laugh--if I had a dog--he still would not be able to find his toy amongst this eBay stuff!

I look around and see piles upon piles of good saleable merch, but want to have that "Martha" organization and categorization too!! But I am doomed.

Off to the Fleas tomorrow to find some more great stuff!! (My problem, I love to buy--why doesn't everyone else too!!)

Even if I got the merch all stashed away-- and afraid--- forgotten--what about all the bubble wrap, peanuts and priority boxes stuffed in the corners of my house?

That's it-- I need a bigger house!

Packer -- great thread! I have shelves - lots of them - they're full! Wonder if the neighbor would let me use some rooms in his house? He already dumpster dives for me. Might as well teach him ALL about life on eBay!

Jeanyu - bigger house doesn't help. I have a big house and it's full (as is the garage).

Let's see:

new merchandise goes in these two rooms;

listed merchandise goes in this room;

sold stuff goes in another room;

packing supplies have to be kept in another room;

the dining room is reserved for taking pictures and items waiting for their turns at "photo shoots". I'm not smart enough to keep selling the same item over and over!

Had to save one room to sleep in, and even it has eBay goodies stacked to the ceiling! At least there is a path through that room, so I can get to the closet (which also has eBay stuff in it).

Even upstairs bathroom is used for eBay. It's the "packing room", since it has a nice big ceramic tile floor and big counter to keep the postal scale scale on.

The only thing the bigger house accomplished was to raise our real estate taxes!

My poor dog hasn't been able to find his toys for 2 years now, either! Poor thing has to pick up rocks outside and bring them inside and pretend they are toys!

Haven't been able to have a family dinner here since I started on eBay. There is no avaiable table space! So now it's off to the kids' houses for Thanksgiving and Christmas!

Can only hope things pick up on eBay soon so I can list like crazy and empty out at least one room. Maybe we'll be able to have guests again if that happens.

Somehow I missed that part in the eBay TOU/TOS that tells you that selling on eBay is like the Blob. It will consume all available space (and then some) in your home,
suck the air out of your social life, and is addicting! I know, the Blob wasn't addicting, but that line had to go someplace.

Trouble is, even if I manage to get all this stuff out of here, I know that I will just go out and find more "treasures" to list!

Is there a 12 step program for eBay sellers?

Well if there is not ~ there should be! A 12 step program that is.

I sold a lot of stuff from free listing day ~ and relisted some for $1.00 ~ sorry packer ~ I had to pack up way too many things that only sold for a dollar ~ I won't be joining you on the $1.00 auctions ~ but I am happy they work for you ~ and I have hauled away two trunk loads of stuff too. I am down to two rooms that have ebay in them ~ the rest is in the garage. I just lost most of my boxes when my back porch developed a roof leak ~ so the rest of the boxes are now in the garage too. I am working on it slow but steady. The first step should be to be willing to throw away or give away what did not sell. The second step should be to not buy anything else until you sell 2/3 of your current inventory.......help me out guys.......lets create the 12 steps!

Okay I am game.
Step one--
We admitted our lives have been taken over but that we will strive to keep a pathway clear in every room of the house.

Okay now I better go make some paths. This place is insane! I'd take pictures but I would DIE if anyone saw how I lived.

ashland ... me too!

I have been telling my parents that they have to stay in a hotel when they visit me for 2 years ... "NO! Don't come out to the house! Oh, I'll just meet you in the lobby ... "

"My poor dog hasn't been able to find his toys for 2 years now, either! Poor thing has to pick up rocks outside and bring them inside and pretend they are toys!"

That may just be the saddest eBay story I've ever read.

Can I send him an old shoe or something to play with?

Reston-ray..if you send an old shoe to Kkbclear's dog it will probably end up listed on ebay.

Step 2: I must realize that not everything in the house says "ebay" on it. Family members (including the pets) have a right to retain their possessions.

LOL, You guys/gals are a riot.

I love the dog and his rock story.

About the boxes...yes it is a major space taking pain.
I don't like breaking them down either because it make it to hard to see if its the size I need.

In the interest of making more space I have broke down many of them as one whole stall in the garage was/is consummed with boxes.

I think I'll sort them by size(after breaking them) and then put each size in a bigger box. maybe leaving one of each in tact so I will know at a glance if its the right size.

I need the different size boxes because the priority boxes don't always work.

Step 3: Sell at least half the inventory before buying more. We need to have weekly meetings to get through the buyers withdrawal.

Hold me back...I just know now that my livingroom is void of eBay stuff I'll be out buying again to fill it up, YIKES! ....Hold me back!

Its nice to know I'm not alone in this.

Step 3:

I will not call my favorite supplier several times a week and ask him if he has a new supply of widgets in for me. I will sell the ones I already have before buying anymore. (I'll wait until he calls me)!

I can tell this is NOT going to be an easy 12 step program! Having withdrawal symptoms just thinking about it!

The story about my dog is true! He really does pick up those rocks and bring them inside! I just pile them up on the one corner of the counter that is still visible and take them back outside so he can bring them in again.

reston_ray - thanks for the offer, but before I accept, I have to know a little about the shoe. Is it a vintage, collectible shoe (someone in eBay land might be searching for one just like it to complete a pair that was handed down from Granny), or is it a common everyday variety? I'd hate to have the dog get attached to it and then take it away from him!

amy - that step you added is going to be a tough one!

My daughter was married for 2 years before I started selling on eBay. Couldn't get her to move her old stuff out of here until she saw one of her old Cabbage Patch dolls listed on eBay! She was over here the next day and moved all her stuff over to her house!

I've sold the kids' wedding presents they had stored here! Figured after 10 years, if they hadn't used the stuff yet, they weren't going to! Now before you jump all over me, let me add that I asked them numerous times to remove the items before I actually sold them!

Boy, this is 12 step program is really going to be tough.

I think the only solution might be to sell the BIG house and move to a SMALL one - with no basement or garage!

Step 5...never buy something if you don't know what it is or it will sit around for years gathering dust waiting to be identified and listed.

Some great ideas!

I must also concur that the big house theory doesn't work that well! I recently bought a house 3 times the size of my older one and it is still full of stuff and more stuff trying to find a place to go!

I'm gaining...

My daughter will now have a place to sleep when she come home Wed. from college for a week.

I'm working on my computer room now.

I got me 2 of the smaller Rino shelves for in here. I'm putting them up today.

So in the grand scheme of things here is my Plan:

(1) GO TO AUCTION
(2) Take stuff imediately to my little house down the street.
(3) Sort stuff...things for garage sale stays there. Things I want to auction on eBay comes home to the garage. Unload boxes put on shelves.
(4) Decide on what batch to run on eBay.
(5) Take to house and put on shelves in computer room.
(6) Clean, take pics, measure, write description. LIST
(7) Take back to garage and put on special shelf. "ITEMS TO BE PACKED"
(8) Sell items, pack'em up......OUT THE DOOR THEY GO!!

Hows that for a plan?

One problem that I can see. When the snow flies.....every room in the house will get filled with eBay "junque" AGAIN!
