It interests me that, despite all the talk about maybe auctions getting passe, or too much inventory listed/too much competion, to keep seeing proof of the effect of bidding.
For example, I was searching half the other day to see if I could find anything to buy for re-sale on ebay. I came across a book on fish that had a steady sales history of around $10 [not much more than the half price], except for one that topped out over $30. I checked the bidding...yep, a bidding war with a 0-feedback buyer involved.
Just now saw the same thing, only it was a bidding war including a NARU buyer. One copy sold at $46, others for closer to $8.
I just hope the two sellers in these examples got paid...
