I have an old cover to put on ebay -- it is from 1872 with a 2c Jackson -- but how do I tell the difference between a Scott 135 and a Scott 146? they seem to have different values.

You should ask that question on the eBay stamp chat board. Those folks are pros and extremely willing to help.

Order a catalog from mysticstamp.com, they should send a free catalog and that might help you.
