I use a Sony Mavica digital with 14X zoom and a built in flash. I use the flash a lot. I have tried using outdoor light, indirect light, natural light, etc, and usually the flash works best. But, with some items, there is a terrible problem with glare. Especially, glass frames, paper, some ceramics, etc. I have tried taking the pic at an angle and sometimes that works, but sometimes it throws the whole perspective off: like square items end up looking like parallelograms! Any tips? I hears that there is an inexpensive filter I can get that will end glare. Anyone heard of this?

Direct front flash will "glare" or reflect back to the lens from any object that is shiny. Sometimes a polarizing filter can help, but you cannot see the glare you are tring to neutralize because it happens too quick. The real answer is nice soft overhead lighting (outside on a nice gray day). Pray for bad weather and shoot fast before it rains!

Put a styrafoam cup or cheese cloth over the flash. Expirement with different sizes and poking holes in the cup for highlights. There may be clip on diffusion filters that will fit your flash.

My cheapo polaroid has settings to where the closer you get the less flash it emits.
If that does'nt work i take the picture at an angle.
If that does'nt work i use one of those gooseneck desk lamps shining right on it and brighten with my software if need be.

i've recently bought a mavica. while researching, i read a lot about the flash being too hot. one tip was to tape a piece of tissue paper over the flash when shooting. haven't tried it yet, but it sounds like an easy fix.

Wax paper or small bubblewrap will also diffuse the light from the flash.

I don't use the flash with my SONY Mavica F73. Just a gooseneck lamp poised above. Sometimes, I use a sheet of white paper behind the item.

I have a Mavica, I've never used the flash.
I don't use artifical light unless I'm shooting at night.
I get my items close to a window and use the natual light that comes from that, then turn off the lights and use my photo editing program to lighten the pictures if their not bright enough.
I've tried every way I know how and this way works the best for me.
Artificial light seems to alter the color.

I use a piece of an address label applied over the flash for close-ups and it helps a lot and is easily removed. Just don't forget to remove it for longer shots.

Hi

I hardly ever use the flash. I normally use regular indoor lighting from above and the side. I also use sunlight depending on the item.

You can use the flash better if you stand further away and use the zoom.

Hope this helps.

If I want to reduce the flash I sometimes cover about 3/4 of the flash with a index card or something simular. But I've also found that taking dark pictures, and brighting them up in my editing software works pretty good.

I never use the flash. If pic is too dark, I can always make it brighter using graphics software.

I even brighten pics on eBay that are too dark- you'd be surprised what you can see when you brighten the pic with a graphics application.
