I just had a friend call me that has a Gateway computer, she says something has wiped out her Windows 98 files. Is there a virus that could do that. She also had AOL and refused to renew the subscription with them.I know that would cause her not to be able to get on line, but not lose all of windows. I know of three people this happened to, any ideas? What would cause that?

There are viruses that could do that, but it's difficult to tell without knowing more information about her situation.

Yes there are viruses that can remove windows files most dont remove them the virus simply renames them changes the file by a few bytes so windows dont recognize it no longer the file viruses like to change the most are the win.com files and the MBR.
There are also Viruses that will over clock the processor till its works its self to death.
Rewrite the bio or the Cmos So the computer wont know how to boot even from floppy.
