Tonight's news reported an Ebay auction: a New York couple is auctioning the 'naming of their newborn son'. Out of curiosity, I did several searches on Ebay, to no avail. Was the 'item' pulled? Does anyone know the outcome?

Thanks much.

ubiedaman,

I'm sorry I had to delete your post as it contained an auction item number - perhaps you could ask the Originator to email you for the information.

Thanks,
Sara

I just read the ad... How sad. At the bid price of $1.25, I doubt there will be a baby to name any time soon..

The referenced auction is NOT the same mentioned in the CNN article. That couple is already pregnant and supposedly has a minimum bid of $28,000.

CNN Story Black and Schroeder have put the naming rights up for auction on both eBay and Yahoo!, at a minimum bid of $500,000. The ads were posted July 18 and will run through July 28. So far, there have been no bidders, but they plan to extend their offer. (A seach for the auctions early Friday could not find them on either auction site.)

LOL, $500,000.00!!! You could purchase a baby for less.

uaru, yep; foreign adoptions only (?!) cost 25,000.

Maybe they just want a good start on the baby's college fund!

OK, boys and girls. Here's the scoop, to the best of my recollection.

It's bizarre.

Mr. Black was on the Today show this morning.

According to him, he and his wife (?) were at a Chinese restaurant for dinner. When she opened her fortune cookie, it said she would own a house by the end of the year.

For starters, you have to be gullible enough to believe that your future can be foretold in a fortune cookie.

Now, if you do believe, you would probably think you were going to benefit from an unforseen inheritence, or that you will have to work your butt off at 2 jobs to make this dream happen.

However, this couple, expecting their 3rd child in a month, came up with this perfect sche...er...I mean solution.

Run an auction on eBay to name this child.

And, get a large corporation, who would obviously have to be run by people who are a card short of a full deck, to pay good money for this promotional opportunity of a lifetime.

Of course, the lights would have to be out on the porches of the stockholders of that corporation, also.

It would secure the college education of not only the unborn child, but the other 2 children. (Guess student loans and scholarships won't be in existence when/if these children go to college.)

Not to mention, buy them a house too.

Think of it:

Microsoft Black
Black & Decker Black
IBM Black
Jim Beam Black
Kleenex Black
Wal-Mart Black
K-Mart Black

It just goes on and on.

And, should this little boy grow up to President of the United States?

WOW!!!

BTW, this couple knows the child is a boy. They said they would not being doing this if it were a girl.

I guess they think a girl should just get herself a sugar daddy to pay for her education.

And, buy them a house, to boot.

If you're still looking for this auction, I read on another board that eBay zapped it.

Poor Black family.

No home of their own.

No college fund for the kiddies.

And, they will have to rely on their own creativity to come up with a name for the little tyke.

I had heard there wasn't any bids and they were going to relist it, but you're right it isn't anymore it's gone. Just imagine calling Viagara to supper. I had just heard that Buffalo is naming their football stadium Heinze. Yes, after the ketchup. What people won't do for money.
